What you will be doing:
As the Tax Manager, you will oversee tax planning, reporting, and compliance for income, excise, and property taxes. You will assess the tax implications of business activities, develop strategies to minimize liabilities, and provide expert guidance on regulatory changes impacting the organization. In this critical role, you’ll manage relationships with vendors and advisors while collaborating with internal teams to enhance processes and mitigate potential risks.
As a key member of the accounting team, you will ensure full compliance with federal, state, and international tax regulations. This includes establishing and maintaining systems that guarantee accurate, timely reporting across all tax areas. You’ll stay ahead of evolving tax laws, update company policies, and develop strategies to seize new opportunities or mitigate risks. In this role, you will be responsible for identifying and solving complex tax-related challenges while continuously optimizing reporting procedures.
The anticipated yearly salary range for this position is $118,548 - $151,149.
How you will be spending your time:
Facilitating and managing the preparation and review of company federal and state tax returns.
Ensuring accurate, timely filing of Federal, State and local income tax returns and other business-related filings including excise tax, property tax, and other local taxes.
Responsible for assisting with monthly and quarterly estimated tax payment computations and monthly tax account reconciliations.
Finding and implementing opportunities for process improvement in company tax procedures.
Developing and implementing strategic tax planning for all necessary federal and state taxes.
Planning for and developing overall return calendar and coordinate timing and inputs with accounting team.
Organizing and tracking various private and public investments for tax and GAAP purposes.
Maintaining effective control procedures over all aspects of the tax process.
Managing and facilitating IRS income tax audits: preparing responses, creating schedules, etc.
Monitoring legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicating the effects of these developments to management and the accounting team and creating strategies to capitalize on changes to taxation legislation.
Providing support with various audits and special tax related projects, including Department of Revenue audits.
Preparing and reviewing quarterly/yearly tax projections.
Preparing and reviewing monthly excise tax returns.
Maintaining book and tax fixed asset depreciation/amortization schedules for multiple legal entities using BNA fixed asset software.
Communicating status of assigned work to the Controller. Initiating timely action on technical, scheduling, and other problems and bringing recommendations to the Controller’s attention.
Minimum Qualifications:
4 to 5 years of directly related experience and 3+ years of managerial experience required.
CPA and a Bachelors ’s degree in an accounting preferred.
Extensive individual/corporate/partnership tax knowledge.
Experience with real and personal property tax concepts.
Experience with excise tax concepts (sales and gross receipts taxes).
Familiarity with the tax code and U.S. Federal, State and local reporting requirements.
Experience with a variety of tax operations and ability to drive process improvements.
Proficiency with Microsoft Suite – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.
Advanced understanding of Yardi, RIA Checkpoint, and BNA Fixed Assets or similar software.
