Come be a part of what makes us so special!The OpportunityAs a dedicated Java Software Engineer - Intermediate Level, you will support and enable a multi-year Claims Modernization Journey to transform and simplify Claims systems by implementing technology solutions to provide scalable and compliant claims processing capabilities for our members. In addition, you will be responsible or assist with end-to-end technology integration including solution design, infrastructure design, data flow/integration, system performance, reliability functions, and tech debt tracking & resolution across Claims Modernization.Within defined guidelines and framework, provides support to the Enterprise through delivering best in class technology solutions. Engaged in all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle which include gathering and analyzing requirements, designing, testing, documenting, and implementing software, responding to outages.We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in our San Antonio, TX facility. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.What you'll do:
Design, develop, code, and test technical solutions
Write code to deliver features, and improvements, on a regular basis
Investigates and resolve technical problems and production issues through troubleshooting techniques
Continually improves operations by conducting systems analysis and recommending changes in policies and procedures.
Prepares and installs solutions by determining and designing system specifications, standards, and programming.
Follows the software development lifecycle.
Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
What you have:
Bachelor’s Degree or 4 additional years of experience beyond the minimum requirement can be used in lieu of a degree OR Approved certification from CodeUp, Galvanize, VetFIT (Veterans for IT) or eFIT (Employees for IT).
2 years of software development experience specific to a discipline/technology.
1 year of experience delivering technology solutions in all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle.
Basic Understanding of one or more of the following: Java, Swift, Objective-C, Cobol, JavaScript, Kotlin, C, HTML, CSS, SQL, Go, and Python
Knowledge and understanding of troubleshooting applications and systems within production issues.
Ability to quickly understand applicable business acumen to provide appropriate Engineering solutions
Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions.
Basic understanding of cloud technologies and tools.
What sets you apart:
US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner
2+ years of software engineering/development experience using Java
2+ years’ experience working with REST API development and experience building APIs with Spring Boot
Working experience in AWS.
Claims Modernization experience would be a plus
Ability to implement container-based APIs using various container technologies like Open Shift, Docker, or Kubernetes.
Familiar with Gradle, Git, GitHub, GitLab, etc. around continuous integration and continuous delivery infrastructure
Understanding of large scale microservice architecture patterns.
