If so, look no further! Arkema Inc. is actively recruiting for anOperations Support Engineerto support our Houston facility. At Arkema, the Operations Support Engineer reports directly to the Operations Manager and provides early-career technical (chemical engineering) support at the plant while gaining experience with plant processes, systems, procedures, policies, and equipment. The position ensures adherence to all AIMS HESQ policies & practices (ISO-9001, ISO-14001, ISO-45001 & RCMS) and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements (OSHA, EPA, TCEQ regulations and permits), quality systems, and safe work permit practices. The Houston plant is located in Southeast Texas, within the Greater Houston area. This location is approximately 10 miles east of downtown Houston, making it a central hub for chemical manufacturing and logistics in the region. Our facility specializes in the production of linear mercaptans, tertiary mercaptans, and carbon disulfide. Operations and Technical Goals:
Assist the production department in troubleshooting process problems.
Support Sr. Production Engineer and Production Superintendent in driving operating disciplines.
Monitor operational efficiency and drive yield improvement.
Execute small capital projects.
Track metrics such as Asset Utilization, Plant Reliability, and Material Usage Variance (MUV).
Provide daily and weekly production status reports, including weekly MUV reports.
Maximize operational efficiency and continuously identify and evaluate opportunities for improvement.
Provide assistance to Operations during plant turnarounds, emergency operations, and other instances requiring technical support.
Health, Environmental & Safety:
Ensure full compliance with all safety-related regulatory requirements, including OSHA, PSM, PMP, and company policies and programs (MSM).
Lead and support incident investigations.
Drive closure of assigned action items.
Update procedures and operating targets (e.g., round sheets and run sheets).
Process Safety:
Participate in PHAs/HAZOP reviews as needed.
Update and maintain P&IDs and process flow diagrams.
Professional Development:
Develop technical, interpersonal, and management skills to support the Houston Plant and Thiochemicals Group.
Foster community relations and align personal goals with plant objectives and initiatives.
Required Education/Qualifications/Work experience
B.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering from an an accredited university
2-3 years experience of chemical process unit operations
Ability to understand and troubleshot chemical processing to achieve production goals
Strong communication and presentation skills for interpreting data and making recommendations
Demonstrates ownership, attention to detail, time management and organizational skills
A strong work ethic and ability to work in cross-functional teams to deliver project outcomes on time
