Candidates should have a strong interest in Robotics Operations, Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I), and most of all, possess a great passion to contribute to our Nation’s exploration of space.This work involves support operations of the ARGOS facility executing and overseeing Human in the Loop (HIL) suited, reduced gravity testing, to prepare for NASA’s return to the Moon. ARGOS provides a reduced gravity environment used for engineering analysis, astronaut trials, and training for space operations. A payload such as an astronaut or robot is attached to an ARGOS gimbal which allows the robotic system to remove the effects of Earth’s gravity. This will support NASA’s deep-space exploration initiative and the return to the moon and on to Mars. The engineer will support ARGOS operations and system upgrades for suited testing. This includes documentation, integration efforts and tests, project design reviews, verification and validation (V&V), development of operational test procedures, and certification for operations.Qualifications:This position requires a self-motivated, capable person with strong verbal and written communication skills. In addition to outstanding technical expertise, the individual must be very people savvy, strong customer relationship skills, possess a positive team-player attitude, be flexible and willing to take on new assignments and responsibilities as they arise. Finally, the most qualified candidate will be an articulate speaker able to communicate complex technical ideas in a convincing manner, must share our passion for our Nation's Space Program, and share in the excitement of developing the next human-rated space vehicles. This work takes place at NASA/JSC in Houston, TX, a highly stimulating and dynamic environment that is critical in human space flight and the space exploration initiative.Responsibilities:
Develop a complete understanding of the ARGOS facility design, components, and operations.
Identify requirements deviations, requests, and document waivers.
Participate in the Integration and testing of ARGOS subsystems as the system matures while working with ARGOS leads according to the project testing procedures.
Support the characterization of close calls and mishaps as well as investigation efforts for incidents that involve ARGOS.
Troubleshoot issues with ARGOS.
Provide support for SE&I documentation, test plan development, project schedules, concept of operations, and other documentation.
Support the project during upcoming Design Reviews.
Required:
U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident for access to USG Facilities.
B.S. in Aerospace, Mechanical, Systems Engineering, or related disciplines required.
Experience with robotics operations, developing operations plans and procedures.
Experience understanding industry standards and their applicability to ARGOS.
Must have strong verbal communications skills with the ability to speak boldly, clearly, and concisely in large groups to communicate important information in a multi-disciplinary team of mechanical, electrical, and software engineers and test conductors.
Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
Have demonstrated the ability to interact with multi-disciplinary teams, different stakeholders and ensure that standards, procedures, and protocols are being followed.
Ability to manage multiple priorities with little supervision.
Must be a highly responsible, team-oriented individual with strong work ethic.
Must have highly developed coordination and organization skills.
Desired:
M.S. in Aerospace, Mechanical, Systems Engineering or a related field.
Background working with NASA systems engineering processes.
3+ years of robotics operations experience desired.
Experience with Engineering Design, CAD software, e.g., Solidworks, Creo, Autocad.
Experience with Ethercat, Failsafe Over Ethercat (FSOE), and Trick simulation is a plus.
Experience with systems engineering, requirements verification and validation desired.
Familiarity with the Project Management and Design cycle processes, e.g., PDR, CDR, SAR.
