The successful candidate for this position will have the opportunity to join UTA during an exciting period of growth and contribute as the university broadens its impact.Job SummaryThe Assistant Director of Academic Engagement plays a pivotal role in fostering a supportive academic environment for students in the Office of Academic Engagement within the University Advising and Engagement Center. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and assessing programs and initiatives that enhance student engagement, academic success, and retention in the areas of academic advising, major exploration, and college academic programs. This position is responsible for managing advising programs, supporting academic advisors, and ensuring that students receive the guidance and support they need to succeed academically and personally. The Assistant Director collaborates with faculty, staff, and other stakeholders to develop and implement advising strategies that promote student retention, progression, and graduation.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesProgram Development and Implementation

Build and manage partnerships with colleges and departments across campus to support and enhance academic advising programs and initiatives within the office of Academic Engagement.

Manage a major exploration program grounded in career advising and professional pathways development. Create and implement programs for the Major Exploration Center that increases belonging and fosters active student engagement.

Develop programs around high impact practices associated with Academic Engagement and Advising that integrates active learning within individual and group sessions.

Create and implement special engagement and advising programs focused on student enrollment, retention, and academic success.

Supervision and Leadership/Academic Advisor Support and Training

Manage the academic advising processes for the Office of Academic Engagement, including Major Exploration and special student populations.

Oversee the daily operations of the academic advising office, including the development and implementation of advising policies, procedures, and best practices.

Assist in developing and implementing policies and procedures related to the academic operations and success of students in these advising groups.

Work closely with faculty, academic departments, and other student support services to enhance the overall student advising experience.

Promote a collaborative approach to student success.

Manage a team of academic advisors.

Provide training, support, and professional development opportunities for academic advisors to ensure they are well-equipped to meet students’ needs.

Assessment and Evaluation

Track and assess academic advising services.

Assist the Director in developing student learning outcomes for Academic Engagement and Advising programs based on data analysis and key performance indicators. Develop and implement assessment plans based on those SLOs.

Teaching and Curriculum Design

Teach at least one class per semester.

Develop and implement outcome-based curriculum for student programs and class sessions focused on first year transitions, major exploration, and career pathways.

Develop and assess Academic Engagement and Advising course assignments to support students in achieving enrollment and academic goals.

Design curricula, workshops, and other educational materials that align program outcomes with institutional goals and student needs.

Other Duties as AssignedMinimum QualificationsMaster’s degree with minimum 3 years of experience with advising, student development and supervision, tutoring, supplemental instruction, first year seminars, first year programming, or other similar educational programs.
