The ideal candidate for this position is an MD or MD-PhD physician-scientist at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, with a strong record of research accomplishments in patient-oriented, translational, or basic science research. In addition, the division chief should have excellent clinical and teaching skills and administrative experience sufficient to lead the division.The Division of Nephrology at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is a leading clinical and research enterprise in nephrology and is among the most distinguished pediatric nephrology units in the nation, ranked 12th in the nation by US News and World Report in 2021-2022. The division currently includes nine faculty members, with seven M.D. faculty and two tenure-stream Ph.D. faculty. The Division of Nephrology at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is the only program to provide general pediatric nephrology care in Western Pennsylvania and operates outreach clinics at several additional sites including Erie, Harrisburg, Johnstown, Sharon, and Washington, Pennsylvania as well as Western Maryland. The division includes a leading kidney transplantation program with many referrals coming from outside of Western Pennsylvania. Patients from 18 states have received kidney transplants at our program thus far. The Division also directs a competitive pediatric nephrology fellowship program, with trainee graduates going on to become national leaders in the field.UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh has been named to the Top 10 Honor Roll on U.S. News & World report's 2021-2022 list of American's Best Children's Hospitals.
