Pitt is one of the top universities in the US, currently ranked among the top ten universities in NIH grant funding, and has a very stimulating environment for talented young researchers.The Aird Lab studies the intersection between cellular metabolism and the cell cycle of cancer. The lab has made fundamental discoveries into how metabolism informs proliferative cell fate decisions by studying two extremes of proliferation: cancer and cellular senescence. Both cancer and senescent cells are highly metabolically active, yet the outcomes of this rewiring are distinct. Using cancer as a model system, we aim to answer fundamental questions on the bidirectional control of metabolism and the cell cycle.Applicants should have a PhD in the Biomedical Sciences with a strong background in molecular and cellular biology.
