THE POSITION

The Bureau of Labor Law Compliance within the PA Department of Labor & Industry is responsible for overseeing and enforcing the laws that safeguard workers' rights in Pennsylvania. We are seeking a Labor Law Investigator to take on a vital role in ensuring adherence to labor regulations, conducting in-depth investigations into workplace practices and employee complaints. This role demands a solid understanding of federal, state, and local labor laws, along with strong analytical abilities and meticulous attention to detail. In this position, you will be responsible for receiving and evaluating complaints, auditing payroll records, timecards, and related documentation, as well as organizing meetings with claimants and employers when necessary. You will initiate prosecutions as required and prepare both written narratives and verbal testimonies for cases that advance to legal proceedings. Additionally, you will provide education to contractors, organizations, employees, and public officials regarding legal requirements and recent judicial rulings that impact these laws. You will request necessary documents and information from relevant parties to facilitate audits and investigations, compile comprehensive reports on your findings, and submit weekly itineraries and case summaries to the Investigation Supervisor. Effective communication with employers, employees, and supervisors regarding the status of ongoing investigations is essential. You will represent the Commonwealth in prosecutions before the District Justice and serve as an expert witness in administrative and court hearings. Your duties will also include gathering physical evidence and eyewitness testimonies to support prosecutions, conducting thorough interviews with claimants and business owners, and inspecting businesses for potential violations related to the employment of minors, which may involve discussions with school officials, project managers, and other stakeholders. Travel to various business locations for investigation and audit purposes will be required, along with maintaining detailed records of case progress and consulting with your supervisor on complex cases.Interested in learning more? Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITYQUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:Two years of technical investigative or construction and trades experience and an associate's degree in a field related to investigative or construction and trades work; or
One year of technical investigative or construction and trades experience and a bachelor's degree; or
An equivalent combination of experience and training.Additional Requirements:
You must live in or be willing to move to and must travel within the geographic area of the Philadelphia District Office. The following counties are served by the Philadelphia District Office: Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, Philadelphia.
You must be able to perform essential job functions.Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in conducting investigations or working in construction and trades, business management, financial services, accounting, or conflict resolution
An associate's degree or greater, in a fi ld related to investigative work construction and trades, business management, financial services, accounting, or conflict resolution
Experience enforcing labor standards or labor and employment laws
