Job DescriptionHiring Rate: Flat Rate: $72,190.00PROGRAM AND JOB DESCRIPTION:Division/Program Summary Description: The Bureau of Alcohol and Drug Use Prevention, Care, and Treatment (BADUPCT) works to close gaps and reduce overall morbidity and mortality related to alcohol and substance use among New Yorkers. BADUPCT develops, implements, and evaluates interventions and prevention strategies through contracting of treatment, recovery and support services; policy analysis and development; epidemiology and surveillance; dissemination of treatment and management guidelines; harm reduction initiatives; public and provider outreach and education; and community involvement and interagency collaboration. The Bureau amplifies the voices of those most impacted and focuses on inequitable structural, social, service, and communication factors that drive disparities.Position Summary: The Substance Use Initiatives in Health Care Coordinator will be part of BADUPCT’s Practice Implementation Team within the Health Care Provider Initiatives Unit. The Substance Use Initiatives in Health Care Coordinator will assist with overall programmatic supervision of funded contractors to expand access to substance use-related health care services for people who use drugs. In addition, the individual will assist with management of large-scale initiatives for improving substance use-related health care services in health care settings by providing overall programmatic supervision and technical assistance.Job Duties and Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Substance Use Initiatives in Health Care Coordinator will perform the following tasks:
Assist with management of large-scale initiatives for improving substance use care in health care settings.
Provide contracted agencies with technical assistance in the interpretation and implementation of applicable policies, procedures, and regulations.
Assist with the development of and promote use of resources to support expanded access to medications for addiction treatment.
Assist with the development and coordination of training events related to substance use care
Assist with data collection, program evaluation, program planning, and quality improvement activities to improve service delivery.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge related to best practices in the treatment of substance use disorders.
Assist with monitoring submission of deliverables and reviewing reports.
Liaise/communicate regularly with initiative partners.
Assist with preparing comprehensive reports and writing concise summaries of activities and findings.
Assist with other initiative-related activities as needed.
Work closely and coordinate with other units in BADUPCT.
Preferred Skills:
Demonstrated commitment to promoting racial justice and health equity.
Experience practicing public health in a government setting and working across systems to further a public health approach to substance use.
Experience working with health care providers.
Possess some knowledge of alcohol and substance use, particularly knowledge of medications for addiction treatment.
Understanding of harm reduction framework and principles
Experience in program monitoring and evaluation.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to read, interpret, and synthesize polices, regulations and epidemiologic and other scientific literature.
Possess exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Detail-oriented with outstanding organizational skills.
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, high- volume environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite

For Assignment Level I (only physical, biological and environmental sciences and public health) A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health.
To be appointed to Assignment Level II and above, candidates must have:
A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or
A master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time research experience in the appropriate field of specialization; or
Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least a master's degree in an appropriate field of specialization and at least two years of experience described in "2" above. Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I can be substituted for the experience required in "1" and "2" above.
