Grounds and Animal Caretaker

Overview

Seeking a Grounds and Animal Caretaker for a family owned small hobby farm in Westbrookville, NY (Wurtsboro, Sullivan County) 15 minutes from either Monticello or Port Jervis. The ideal candidate will be responsible for animal care (several horses, goats, chickens) and maintaining the grounds and equipment on the property.

Responsibilities:

-Animal Care: feed, water, groom, maintenance of the stables/fences, monitor animal health

-Grounds Maintenance- basic property needs include but are not limited to; lawn mowing, leaf blowing, weed whacking, pruning trees, splitting wood, fence fixing, trail maintenance. There is a small living cabin on the property that would need to be kept clean and maintained throughout the year.

Schedule:

Morning and evening responsibilities with flexible hours

Requirements:

-Live in close proximity

-Knowledge of safe and efficient operation of large equipment is required, e.g., tractor, excavators, chippers, wood splitters, chain saws. Maintenance of equipment including quads is a plus.

-Proficiency in basic carpentry skills, using hand tools and power equipment is encouraged

-Ability to work independently and as part of a team

-Complete projects and chores in a timely manner

-Good communication and problem solving skills

-Valid driver's license

-Must provide two references

-Owning or having owned animals is a plus

Benefits:

-Willing to work with a caretaker who has their own animals and would like to keep and/or board them on the property.

-There is a three bedroom house on the property for a caretaker if they are looking for living space. Can discuss further if interested.
