Live-in Kitchen Positions

We are a yoga-based community, seeking a FT Kitchen Assistant Manager and FT Lead Cook to oversee a commercial kitchen in our Yoga Retreat Center.

FT Kitchen Assistant Manager: The assistant manager position requires, in addition to ease with vegetarian cooking for groups of up to 100, the ability to work well with the kitchen manager in planning meals within budgetary limits, in food ordering and in staff scheduling. Good leadership skills and ability to function in a flexible environment are important. Must have kitchen organizational skills and full understanding of kitchen safety procedures and best practices. Two years experience in a commercial kitchen is preferred.

FT Lead Cook: The lead cook must be able to prepare and guide the kitchen team in preparation of wholesome, balanced vegetarian meals. Vegetarian cooking experience is necessary. Must hold a high standard for safety and hygienic practices. Will be expected to work respectfully with kitchen managers and have good leadership skills.

We are growing our emphasis of gluten-free vegetarian cooking and mostly vegan environment. We are looking for applicants who have an understanding and familiarity with this or have a willingness to learn. Vegan cooking knowledge is a plus.

We offer a creative work-space for individuals interested in healthy-living food preparation. An interest in personal spiritual development is strongly preferred.

Room and board included with a modest monthly stipend starting at $400 based on experience. Also, included are the Ashram core program: daily morning and evening meditation with Yoga-Vedanta studies, Hatha Yoga and Sanskrit classes, plus concerts and cultural events.
