JOB SUMMARY:

As part of its 2024-2027 strategic plan, PHP is committing to create inclusive spaces, both online and in-person, where parents can come together, forming strong connections and offering mutual support. Our collaborative efforts with diverse community groups will amplify social connections and opportunities for parents of individuals with disabilities, fortifying existing bonds and cultivating new ones, in order to enhance wellbeing for the entire family while helping them build support systems.

PHP is seeking a passionate and dynamic individual fluent in both English and Spanish to join our team to lead this initiative as the Manager of Community Engagement. The Community Engagement Manager will play a pivotal role in fostering a vibrant and supportive community for parents and caregivers of children with disabilities. This position requires a strong commitment to our mission, excellent communication skills, and the ability to cultivate meaningful relationships with our diverse community members with an emphasis on maintaining contact with caregivers and community groups in support of families with children and adults with disabilities. This role is also responsible for attracting new partners and increasing engagement with existing partners through regular communications, and developing and executing on a series of community events which bring parents and caregivers together. The Manager of Community Engagement will also oversee PHP’s Outreach efforts. Reports to PHP”s Chief Development Officer and will work closely with PHP’s Program and Marketing teams.

This is a professional opportunity to work in community engagement with families, volunteers and other community organizations. The incumbent will dialogue with the public on key issues affecting children and families with disabilities through community engagement efforts to increase PHP’s understanding, and ability, to meet these needs.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Community Building and Engagement Strategy: Develop and implement a comprehensive community engagement strategic plan to foster strong relationships and mutual support among parents. Collaborate with PHP volunteers and staff to create new online and in-person opportunities for parents to connect and engage.

Partnership and Collaboration: Collaborate with various community groups and partner organizations to enhance social connections and opportunities for parents of individuals with disabilities. Identify opportunities for collaboration and partnership to expand the reach and impact of PHP's community engagement initiatives.

Research and Analysis: Conduct intentional studies, focus groups, and surveys to understand the needs, barriers, and preferences of our parent community. Analyze data to identify trends, insights, and opportunities for improvement in community engagement efforts.

Event Planning and Execution: Plan and coordinate a diverse range of community engagement events, including workshops, support groups, and social gatherings. Ensure events are accessible, inclusive, and responsive to the diverse needs of our parent community.

Online Engagement Strategies: Explore and implement new online engagement strategies, such as special interest groups, WhatsApp groups, and other Web 2.0 platforms. Work closely with PHP program managers and staff to integrate community engagement add-ons into online education events and webinars.

Communication and Promotion: Develop strategies to promote community engagement opportunities through newsletters, website promotions, social media channels, and other communication channels. Work with PHP’s Marketing Manager to implement strategies. Ensure PHP's community engagement initiatives are effectively communicated and accessible to all members of the caregiver community.

Measurement and Evaluation: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure the success of community engagement efforts. Track progress, evaluate outcomes, and iterate on strategies based on insights and feedback from the parent community.

Outreach: Develop and execute on culturally competent communications & outreach plans for the Spanish and Vietnamese speaking communities

Volunteers: work closely with PHP’s Volunteer Coordinator to maximize contributions of agency volunteers involved in community engagement and outreach.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Lead and manage your team: Vietnamese Outreach Specialist and dotted line to Spanish Outreach Specialist. Lead by example with professionalism, kindness, and a fierce drive to advance PHP’s mission.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A passion for families with children with disabilities.

Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Spanish required with the ability to engage and inspire diverse audiences.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in community engagement, program management, or related roles, preferably in the non-profit sector.

Strong leadership and project management skills, with the ability to effectively coordinate and collaborate with volunteers, staff, and external partners.

Knowledge of online community platforms, social media channels, and digital engagement tools.

Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with a passion for creating inclusive and accessible spaces for all members of the parent community.

Demonstrated cultural competency in serving low income, underserved areas in Santa Clara County

Ability to represent PHP at high profile events and develop/maintain relationships with other community organizations.

Skilled in the use of Google Suites, Excel, Quickbooks, Salesforce or other CRM and other programs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This job requires extended periods of sitting or standing at a desk while working on a computer. Candidates should be able to use a computer, keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment comfortably and efficiently.

Visual Requirements: This position requires the candidate to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading, review of marketing materials and website.

Occasional Mobility: While the job is primarily sedentary, candidates should be capable of occasional movement within the office environment for access to others, supplies or equipment.

Verbal Communication: This position requires frequent communication, both in person and over the phone or via video conferencing. Requires the ability to clearly and effectively communicate information and ideas so others will understand.

Travel: Must be able to travel as needed, primarily in Santa Clara County.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

This is not a 100% remote position; in-person interaction with the PHP team, community agencies, and/or attendance at in-person trainings and community events is required. Required to be on camera for meetings which may be recorded. Maintaining a meaningfully significant in-office presence at PHP’s main office in San Jose will be expected and work from home hours will be determined by the supervisor based on organizational needs. Ability to work some weekends and evenings is required. This is a 32 hour per week position.
