Overview of School
Park Day School offers an outstanding co-educational K-8 program to approximately 340 students. Our historical and park-like four-acre campus is in the vibrant Temescal neighborhood of Oakland, CA.
Overview of the Position
K-2 Spanish Program
Focus: Introduction to the Spanish language and Latin American cultures.
Activities: Stories, songs, games, projects, and early writing in Spanish.
Cultural Exposure: Focus on one Spanish-speaking country each year, exploring its people, art, music, food, and traditions.
Community Connection: Visitors and classroom activities emphasize that Spanish is part of the local and global community.
3-5 Spanish Program
Focus: Build upon foundational language skills.
Activities: Literature, music, games, projects, and more advanced speaking, reading, and writing.
Cultural Exploration: Study of Spanish-speaking countries, U.S. Spanish-speaking communities, and the United Farmworker movement.
Community Engagement: Field trips and local connections show Spanish’s relevance in everyday life.
The qualified candidate will/must:
Be fluent in Spanish.
Have progressive educational theory and practices.
Be culturally competent.
Have at least two years of exemplary classroom teaching experience.
Have a working understanding of developmental/constructivist teaching practices and social-emotional learning.
Able to successfully instruct and differentiate for students at different ability levels and multiple intelligences.
A love of learning and desire to work with children as a facilitator of learning.
A degree with a major in education, or subject-specific field.
A valid teaching credential is strongly desired.
A collaborative spirit.
Have good oral and written communication skills.
Organize and manage a positive classroom.
Teach and adapt an integrated curriculum.
Understand how to work with a diverse student population, including some students with learning and behavioral needs.
Be committed to social justice, equity, and diversity.
Use a supportive and clear tone with students.
Have experience with collaborative teaching.
Compensation:
Salary and benefits will be based on qualifications, experience, and our established teacher salary step scale. Our compensation range is $66K-$100K. Benefits offered include employer-paid medical with Kaiser and Sutter health, dental insurance, a generous retirement plan and more.
