YOUR POSITION WITH TNC

The Donor Communications Manager will lead the development and production of communications materials to engage, solicit and steward existing and prospective donors to the Wyoming Business Unit.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Donor Communications Manager will lead the development and production of communications materials to engage, solicit and steward existing and prospective donors to the Wyoming Business Unit in cooperation with fundraisers and conservation staff. They will work closely with Wyoming program staff and fundraisers to identify fundable priority work, grant-funding opportunities, ensure compliance to funding intent, and will manage our chapter’s private grants process. Duties will include writing, editing and formatting letters of inquiry, appeals, acknowledgements, proposals, reports, fact sheets and marketing materials. They must be able to make a strong case for the Conservancy’s conservation strategies and program/project work and must develop and demonstrate a deep understanding of the Conservancy’s key audiences. They must be able to lead project management, handle multiple projects simultaneously, and be responsive to deadlines and tight timetables.

The Donor Communications Manager will maintain direct and regular contact with Wyoming Business Unit staff to keep up to date on projects and gather donor-friendly information for communications and proposals. Other responsibilities may include collecting news updates; producing multi-media items (e.g., presentations, slideshows); providing content for donor visits and field trips; and supporting website, email, and social media content.

The Donor Communications Manager will be part of the Wyoming development team, reporting to the Director of Development and working closely with the marketing team. They will help achieve the strategic priorities of the Wyoming Development Team by collaborating closely with other team members and maintaining current, expert knowledge of donor communications tools and practices. They will manage complex, high-profile communications projects, mentor other donor communications professionals, and serve as a resource to the team and other fundraising professionals. They may coordinate the work of and/or support administrative staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE

  • Act independently within broad program goals to prioritize tasks in the absence of specific instructions and exercise independent judgment to identify and solve problems.
  • Coordinate projects with several variables, set realistic deadlines, and manage a timeline.
  • Decisions may bind the organization financially or legally.
  • Ensure programmatic commitments, TNC policies and procedures, financial standards, and legal requirements are met and managed for compliance.
  • Financial responsibility includes working within a budget, and negotiating and contracting with vendors.
  • Implement and manage new initiatives that will ensure department and organization-wide goals and strategies are achieved.
  • Manage functional activity towards program’s strategic goals.
  • May participate in complex negotiations.
  • May supervise administrative, professional and/or volunteer staff, responsibility includes training and professional development.
  • Travel occasionally, work long and flexible hours as needed.
  • Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and minor physical exertion and/or strain.
  • Work is diversified and may not always fall under established practices and guidelines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 years related experience or equivalent combination.
  • Experience with business writing, editing, and proofreading.
  • Experience coordinating projects.
  • Experience generating reports, and analyzing and interpreting data.
  • Experience with current technology in relevant field.
  • Experience working across departments.
  • Experience, coursework, or other training in principles and practices of relevant field.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Ability to write, edit and design written materials for use with donor solicitations, grant proposals, reports, member communications, and events.
  • Experience in graphic design.
  • Experience in interviewing, researching and compiling information from many sources.
  • Ability to implement complex processes.
  • Ability to use existing technology to achieve desired results.
  • Demonstrated experience using diplomacy and tact to build strong relationships and motivate staff.
  • Experience interpreting guidelines to achieve desired results.
  • Experience with database management.
  • Knowledge of current trends in the specific field.
  • Acute attention to detail, accuracy and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Successful experience implementing strategic program goals.
