Production Shop Manager - Product Development CNC, 3D Printing

Upstream Outfitters is a product development company specializing in creating essential products for the Airstream RV marketplace.

We are establishing our product design and development shop here in Madison, WI, and are looking for somebody with a maker mindset to become the leader and caretaker of our fabrication and production facility.

As our Shop Manager you will be helping to shape and refine the design and execution of new products , planning & documenting production and assembly workflows, and helping to produce products for our customers. As we grow our product line, you will coordinate a team of makers and machinists as they fulfill the production schedules that you set weekly to meet our sales demands.

In an ideal world you have experience in a toolmaking, fabrication, or product development shop, and experience managing small teams to meet production goals and deadlines. If you have experience running equipment and/or planning out production workflows, even better.

- Prusa 3D Printer Platform Printing & Maintenance

- Bambu 3D Printers

- HAAS VMC

- Mori CNC Lathe

- CNC Router (ShopSabre)

- Steel & Aluminum welding (delicate work), 4x8 5/8" hole fixture table

Responsibilities

- Working with designer to evaluate new product ideas, and produce and refine prototypes

- Development and management of prototype and production build schedules

- Planning and documenting production strategies

- Development of product BOM for production including sourcing and ordering materials required.

- Maintain material inventories, tooling, and supplies sufficient to maintain production schedules.

- Shop management, driving a culture of safety in a clean, orderly, and organized shop

- Overseeing facility functions, including waste management, equipment management, layout, and equipment purchasing and maintenance.

- Manage, mentor, and train production shop staff

Qualifications

- Minimum 5 years experience working in a manufacturing or fabrication environment

- Team Lead / Production Management / Shop Management experience

- Technical production experience setting up and operating CNC equipment including VMC, Lathe, Routers and 3D Printers

- Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings, assembly instructions, and documentation

- Ability to inspect finished products to ensure production with tolerances

- Self starter and independent worker capable of working and resolving or raising issues with minimal direct supervision

- Possess strong verbal and written communication skills

- Strong attention to detail

- Experience developing and documenting shop procedures and production processes/workflow

- Ideally an education background in manufacturing and fabrication
