At CHS, we are creating connections to empower agriculture.SummaryCHS is hiring a Product Development Chemist (PDC) to analyze and report on current and future CHS adjuvant, micronutrient, biological, and seed treatment products. The Chemist will not only identify product recipes but also monitor formulation stability and compatibility, along with product handling characteristics using experimental design. Additionally, the PDC will lead in formulation expertise and work closely with other members in Product Development to create new product opportunities and help solve chemistry related issues that happen in the field.This role is located in the Randolph, MN area.Responsibilities
Ensure compliance with laboratory health and safety guidelines
Coordinate with senior management to identify source for raw materials and other ingredients
Utilize a working understanding of organic, inorganic, physical and biochemistry
Prepare test solutions to conduct experiments, then advising and coordinating on test procedures
Conduct qualitative and quantitative experiments considering the volume and structure of ingredients
Write technical reports of the test results
Identify improvements that can be made to existing lab processes
Develop nonstandard tests for chemical products
Refine formulations to improve their quality
Ability to work safely around hazardous materials
Sterilize equipment and store materials in secure places
Maintain lab equipment and troubleshoot or report on malfunctions
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (required)
Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or related field required.
7+ years of experience in chemistry in a laboratory setting
Additional Qualifications
Advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in Chemistry preferred
Self-motivated and able to work independently
Capability of making recommendations and resolving issues
Able to interpret and understand labels, safety data sheets (SDS) and seed treater manuals
Strong agriculture background/knowledge with active participation in one or more professional Ag organizations preferred
Understanding of marketing concepts
Ability to perform under stressful situations and time constraints
Ability to utilize office tools (phone, fax, computer) Microsoft Office products.
Ability to put together meeting presentations and present to attending audience in a professional and positive attitude.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail
