The Challenge
We are looking for an experienced Engineering Technician III to join our Construction Engineering Team to serve as a lead project inspector.
In this role, you will:
⦁ Support senior engineers running large highway construction projects.
⦁ Monitor daily project progress, including project diaries and correspondence with contractors.
⦁ Resolve constructability issues to maintain project schedules.
⦁ Direct and schedule technicians staking out and inspecting every project phase to ensure it is built according to plans and specifications in a timely and cost-effective manner.
⦁ Perform office and field duties.
⦁ Manage all aspects of assigned construction projects with limited supervision from senior engineers.
⦁ Supervise and train multiple technicians, including NCDOT staff and contract construction inspectors.
What You Bring
⦁ Experience analyzing and interpreting highway construction plans and applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
⦁ Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
⦁ Customer service experience related to solving problems involving explaining complicated engineering concepts to customer groups.
⦁ You work best in a team environment.
⦁ Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
⦁ Good note taking skills.
⦁ Good communication skills.
⦁ Ability to supervise activities of junior staff and instruct them in proper work methods.
⦁ Safety toe shoes.
Education and Experience
⦁ Associate's degree in Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related field, and
⦁ 3+ years of relevant technician experience; or
⦁ An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Notes
⦁ You must be able to obtain and maintain certifications required to perform material sampling and testing.
⦁ You will be on call 24X7 and may be required to work nights, weekends, holidays and extended hours as necessary.
⦁ You may be subject to hazards, such as rough/uneven terrain and work in bad weather conditions including heat and cold.
