Lab Coordinator - Automotive & Welding Programs

AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM & WELDING TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM
This is a full-time, year-round position supporting the Automotive Technology and Welding Technology Programs. This position will report to the Welding Technology Department Head. This is an evening position with the following hours: 3:30 PM -10:30 PM (Mon-Thurs), 9:30 AM- 8:30 PM (Friday). Hours will be shared between the departments.
Under the direction of the Department Heads of Auto and Welding, the Lab Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the classroom and labs.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Duties are performed in a classroom and lab environment. Working conditions will align with the career and technical education field as follows:
Welders, cutters, solderers, and brazers may work outdoors, often in inclement weather, or indoors, sometimes in a confined area. They may work on a scaffold, high off the ground, and they occasionally must lift heavy objects and work in awkward positions. (http://www.bls.gov)
[Automotive] service technicians stand for most of the day, and they typically work in well-ventilated and well-lit repair shops. Although technicians often identify and fix automotive problems with computers, they commonly work with greasy parts and tools, sometimes in uncomfortable positions. (http://www.bls.gov)
This is a non-exempt, full-time, regular position.
WAGE RANGE: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
-Practical work experience working in the Automotive Industry and Welding Industry.
-Strong written and verbal communication skills.
-Ability to communicate effectively and to interface with students and staff in a professional, approachable manner.
-Ability to operate a computer.
-Will on occasion be required to drive on behalf of Perry Technical Institute. Employee must possess a working vehicle, hold a valid driver’s license, have an acceptable driving record, and produce proof of insurance.
-Must be willing to consent to a drug test.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
-Three (3) years of related practical work experience in the subject area(s) taught or Certificate of completion from an accredited career school in the subject area(s) taught or associate degree.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
-Assist instructors with lab and demonstration setup as well as troubleshoot problems in the lab environment.
-Hours worked will overlap with the day shift therefore it is critical in this position that the lab coordinator be able to communicate effectively between the night shift and day shift teams.
-Assist with grading, assessing and documenting student progress and attendance using Perry Tech’s LRS.
-Coordinate purchasing of supplies between night shift and day shift for the Welding Department.
-Perform routine maintenance on machinery as assigned by the Department Head.
-Attend routine Automotive and Welding department meetings as well as faculty meetings.
-Participate in various Perry Tech committees as assigned (safety, strategic planning, etc.).
-Conduct Auto and Welding program tours.
-Attend and participate in Perry Tech “Open House” events.
-Attend and complete various yearly Perry Tech issued trainings.
-Have good attendance and the ability to work well with others.
-Other duties as assigned.
