Join our team! WSU Ornamental Plant Pathology (PPO) at the Puyallup Research and Extension Center is looking to fill a part- or full-time Plant Technician 2 position. This Plant Technician 2 position supports research and extension activities relating to the Christmas tree, forestry and ornamental nursery crop disease management program at WSU Puyallup. The primary roles will be to assist with field and greenhouse work related to plant health research in the Ornamental Plant Pathology Program. The Plant Technician II is fully qualified to adequately care for and maintain agricultural crops and other experimental plants and will assist with the care and management of plant nurseries, greenhouses, and field plots.

Required Qualifications:

High school graduation or equivalent and three years of work experience in plant research, plant propagation, or related work. College training in plant sciences may be substituted for work experience and one year of additional applicable experience may be substituted for educational requirements.

Possession of, or ability to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver’s license and have a Washington State Certified Pesticide Applicators License or the ability to obtain one within three months of employment,

18 year or older,

Able to lift 25 pounds, walk, stand, lift, bend and reach overhead.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in landscape, greenhouse or nursery management.

Experience operating motorized equipment such as lawnmowers, tractors and forklifts, hand and power tools, and farm equipment.

Some technical writing experience.

People management experience.

Basic understanding of plant biology and microbiology.
