Pierce College is hiring six (6) EMS Lab Technicians (Instructional & Classroom Support Technician II). This is open until filled with preference to start employment on the 16th of each month.

The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Lab Technician (Instructional and Classroom Support Technician 2) performs professional/technical instructional support involving emergency medical equipment, knowledge, material, and techniques. This position assists in planning, conducting, and demonstrating coursework in a professional technical environment. Responsibilities include assisting in the documentation of skills, maintaining laboratory equipment and inventory, tutoring students, record keeping, and setting up students' labs. This position requires regular and consistent attendance.

Essential Functions

The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Lab Technician (Instructional & Classroom Support Technician 2) will be responsible for the following, but not limited to:

Instruction and Classroom Support

Prepare labs as instructed by EMS Program Evaluators to include gathering and setting up medical scenarios and performing as a patient.

Provide critical, real-time feedback to students and EMS Program Evaluators regarding their State/national-mandated skills performance.

Assist with documentation of skills, grades, and student compliance with state/national/program requirements.

Maintain laboratory equipment and inventory spaces.

Ensure student handbook, training agreements, and all handouts are updated and assembled before each term.

Customer/Team Building Relations

Tutor/mentor students with academic challenges and performative concerns.

Coordinate student job fairs/recruitment events.

Train and mentor new/part-time EMS Lab Technician employees.

Qualifications

Required Education:

GED or High School Diploma.

Some college credits or coursework in Emergency Medical Services, Medical, First Response, Military Medic, Fire Services, Homeland Security, or related fields OR equivalent work or volunteer experience in Emergency Medical Services, Medical, First Response, Military Medic, Fire Services, Homeland Security.

Required Experience:

If the educational requirement is met than no experience necessary; Pierce College will provide applicable on-the-job training (OJT).

If the educational requirement is unmet, than equivalent work experience of at least six (6) months will be considered.

Special Requirements:

The successful candidate must consent to and pass a criminal background check after a conditional offer of employment. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability to perform in this position.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) National or state certification or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.

Basic Life Savers CPR –Healthcare professional Certification or obtain within 6 months of employment.

Terms of Employment:

Pierce College is recruiting to fill six (6) vacancies. This is a non-permanent, part-time (approximately 17 hours per week, not to exceed 69 hours per month), non-scheduled, classified 18-month appointment with Pierce College. The nature of the work is sporadic and does not fit a particular pattern. The primary work location will be at Pierce College Fort Steilacoom campus. Occasional travel to Pierce College campuses or sites may occur. Work hours will vary with occasional evenings, weekend work, and occasional travel as required.

Salary & Benefits:

The starting salary of this position is $23.40 an hour, dependent upon qualifications, with periodic increments up to $28.55 an hour. This position is not eligible for benefits.

Physical Work Environment:

This position requires work indoors, outdoors, and in various locations, including an ambulance, automobiles, and confined spaces such as small bathrooms.
