Reporting directly to the Director of Finance and Operations Academic Affairs, this position oversees communications strategy, management and implementation for the Division of Academic Affairs. The Marketing and Communications Manager will manage both externally and internally focused communication, including oversight of website development, story development and placement, production of newsletters and promotional materials, and social media content. The Marketing and Communications Manager will represent the Division of Academic Affairs’ mission to provide equitable access to high quality programs that integrate teaching and research to prepare students to solve the challenges facing our communities, region, nation, and globe. This position will oversee the development, execution and evaluation of marketing and communications programs designed to increase awareness and visibility of the Division within the UW Bothell community, Washington State, and beyond.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Manages Academic Affair Communications tools:
Manages website strategy and the development of content for external and internal electronic communications through all stages of the communications development process.
Monitor and post regularly to DAA units’ social media accounts and serve as primary publisher.
Coordinates division and unit newsletters with key staff to ensure message alignment.
Promote and develop the website presence of the Division of Academic Affairs units across UW Bothell (and the tri-campus community as needed) ensuring content is accurate and up to date with consistent messaging.
Maintain and implement social media strategies: write copy, post interactive content such as photos and videos, curate relevant content from other sources, monitor visitor interaction with social media sites (LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.) in compliance with relevant policies and procedures, and monitor user statistics to guide content development and interaction.
Leads strategic initiatives for the continuous improvement of communication tools, incorporating advanced analytics to enhance user engagement and reach.Lead Academic Affairs Communication Strategy:
Provides advice and develops strategy for messaging to faculty, students, staff, and external audiences.
Consult with other units and departments to develop and implement marketing strategies.
Support and develop external relationships, following up on community leads including sending thank you notes, featuring community partners’ contributions online, and maintaining newsletters and mailing lists.
Develops and executes comprehensive marketing and communication campaigns that align with institutional goals, utilizing innovative methods and technologies.
Acts as a key advisor in high-level strategic planning meetings, influencing communication policies and institutional initiatives.Collaborates with internal and external partners on communications:
Create active cross-campus networks to maintain awareness of ongoing programs and events within the assigned units of responsibility.
Serve as the point person for the Donor Relations team in Advancement & External Relations.
Represents the Division of Academic Affairs on the UW Bothell Communications Council and coordinate marketing initiatives with the central UW Bothell Office of Marketing & Communications, as appropriate. Other duties as assigned.
Leads cross-functional project teams to implement communication strategies, ensuring seamless coordination across departments.
Engages with high-level external stakeholders, including community leaders and key institutional partners, to foster and maintain strategic relationships.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, English, or related field. Equivalent appropriate experience may substitute for this requirement.
Four years of experience managing and creating specialized communications material including publications, graphic design, print, web, social media, special events, etc in a higher education setting.Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Demonstrated experience with website content management systems including WordPress.
Advanced knowledge of MS Office: Outlook, Excel, Word.
Proficient knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign (or similar).
Experience using Facebook, Instagram, Linked-In, Twitter and other social medical platforms to effectively and responsibly communicate compelling content and brand messages.
Strong project management and problem-solving skills, ability to adapt to shifting priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience with communications planning and strategy.
Experience with Content Management Systems.
Attention to detail and experience with copy editing and using style sheets.
Demonstrated collaboration and customer service skills.
Experience managing student staff.
Ability to work with a diverse constituency and demonstrated ability to work with diverse audiences and staff at all levels of an organization.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience with developing information architecture and page layout structures.
Familiarity with research institution topics; able to interpret technical and scientific information for a non-technical audience.
Accessibility training and experience.
Experience with SharePoint, Teams, Google applications.
Experience with video production/editing.CONDITITONS OF EMPLOYMENT Shared office space environment.
Work will be performed across UW Bothell campus.
