Direct Support Professional Needed - Urgently Hiring (Chesapeake)

Role Description:

This is a full-time on-site role for a Direct Support Professional. The Direct Support Professional will be responsible for providing support to individuals with intellectual disabilities, ensuring their safety and well-being, and assisting them with daily living skills such as hygiene and meal preparation. The role will also involve providing training as needed.

General Responsibilities:

The individual in this role will work under the supervision of the Direct Support Professional II and Program Coordinator. They will exhibit practical knowledge of behavior management principles and medication management, implementation of person-centered plans, and demonstrate practical skills and abilities in working with persons with intellectual, developmental, mental, and physical disabilities and varying medical conditions. Responsibilities include:

Providing support to enable individuals to acquire, improve, and maintain maximum functional abilities.

Training and supporting individuals in settings that encourage peer interactions and community integration.

Acting as an occasional shift leader and performing tasks such as writing work orders for repairs, daily housekeeping, and administering medication.

Providing direct-care support in areas such as personal care, communication, independent living, socialization, recreation, leisure skills, home skills, and community integration.

Documenting service delivery and responding to medical and clinical emergencies.

Ensuring safety and welfare of individuals by adhering to regulations governed by OSHA, Medicaid Waiver, the DBHDS, and the Office of Human Rights.

Transporting individuals to work/day support programs and advocating for the individuals served.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of practices and skills utilized in working with persons with intellectual disabilities.

Ability to supervise intellectually disabled adults in a residential setting.

Knowledge of regulations governed by Medicaid, Licensure, Human Rights, and OSHA.

Strong documentation skills and effective interpersonal skills.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds to waist length and perform physical tasks such as stooping, bending, and standing.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) and a minimum of one year of work experience working with ID or MH population in a residential program or day support service is preferred.

Certifications in CPR, First Aid, TOVA, Medication Management, Human Rights, and the Orientation Workbook are required.

Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and a current copy of a DMV driving record.

Must submit to random drug screening and state and national criminal background investigation.

Employment contingent upon satisfactory results of drug screening, investigation, and registry check by the Department of Social Services.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in Human Services and providing support to individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Excellent Interpersonal Skills and ability to build rapport with clients and their families.

Strong Communication skills to effectively communicate with clients and team members.

Experience and knowledge in providing training to individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Certifications such as CPR/First Aid and Medication Administration.

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field would be a plus.
