Through its bold initiatives, state of the art infrastructure, breadth of talent, and dynamic work environment, the Legal Department of Capital One has become one of the most highly admired corporate legal departments in the country.Based in McLean and Richmond, CAST prides itself on providing its associates with an environment that fosters authenticity and a space for growth and development, and fostering a culture where each associate is respected and their individual contributions are valued.The RoleThe Senior Manager, Senior Counsel - Procurement, is a hybrid business counsel / transactional attorney role that will be responsible for advice and counsel to the Company’s Enterprise Supplier Management (ESM) group, including on a variety of complex procurement transactions and enhanced risk issues. In this role, the Senior Manager, Senior Counsel - Procurement will work alongside others in CAST to support ESM.Responsibilities include:

Independently managing (including drafting and negotiating) a wide range of commercial and procurement transactions

Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders in support of the Company's complex, enterprise-wide procurement and outsourcing contracts

Serve as the legal risk steward in forums tasked with identifying risks in proposed procurement transactions

Proactively propose and implement process improvements that promote efficiencies and advise on internal guidelines and procedures

Build and maintain strong relationships with ESM and line of business stakeholders

Implementing and managing repeatable, controlled processes for transactional work

When necessary, managing and coordinating outside counsel, including management of the delivery of services and cost

The PersonAn ideal candidate will be a seasoned legal professional with proven ability to operate effectively in a complex, highly regulated, and evolving environment, and will have the following experience and skills:

Ability to manage multiple transactions, take on new responsibilities and handle novel issues is critical

Exceptional negotiation skills and the ability to identify, lead and manage a negotiation team

Ability to advise and counsel business groups on legal issues related to procurement transactions

Demonstrated ability and willingness to work as a team player, interacting with associates across departments and job levels

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision

Strong organizational skills with impeccable attention to detail

Excellent analytical and oral and written communication skills

Ability to work cooperatively with internal constituents to create efficient processes and to get issues resolved across organizational boundaries

Ability to work in a dynamic environment and flexibility to adapt to changing needs

Ability and desire to learn new areas of law

Ability and willingness to work as a team player

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Basic Qualifications

Juris Doctor from an accredited law school

Active member in good standing of at least one state bar

At least 4 years of experience as an attorney in a law firm, government or an in-house legal department, or a combination, with a focus on third party procurement, vendor or outsourcing transactions, including from the buy-side

Preferred Qualifications

At least 5 years of experience as an attorney in a law firm, government or an in-house legal department, or a combination, with a focus on third party procurement, vendor or outsourcing transactions, including from the buy-side

2+ years of experience providing advice and counsel on procurement transactions to clients in the financial services industry

2+ years of experience providing advice and counsel on procurement transactions, including technology services

Experience with Google Workspace
