General Laborer
Texas, San antonio, 78201 San antonio USAThe General Laborer will perform a wide range of physical labor tasks in support of workers on the construction site including but not limited to; concrete finisher, pipelayer, lead pipelayer, operator, and superintendent.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Locate existing underground utilities by hand digging (potholing)
Assist with the install of underground waterlines, sanitary sewer lines and storm sewer lines
Assist in the process of backfilling waterlines, sanitary sewer lines and storm drain lines utilizing vibratory plates, tampers, (jumping jacks) and remote-controlled trench compactors
Assist pipelayers and operators as assigned. This may include jobs such as demolition, handing tools and materials on top of the ditch.
Unloads materials that are delivered such as lumber or bags of cement and distributes them to appropriate location as identified by supervisor, project plans, or specifications.
Prepares layout area where construction will take place by properly measuring, marking, or recording openings or distances.
Prepares tools and materials for skilled workers, mixing cement or preparing flooring for installation.
Cleans and prepares specific areas of jobsite as assigned. This may include digging trenches; erecting scaffolding; cleaning up rubble, debris, and trash; or removing hazardous materials.
Operates a wide variety of hand and power tools.
Directs traffic near, in, or around work zones.
Motions equipment operator to assist with alignment, movement, or adjustment of machinery, equipment, or materials.
Cleans jobsite at the end of the day, ensuring trash is properly disposed of and materials or equipment are properly stored.
Basic trench safety knowledge and properly setting ladders securely to assist pipelayers access in and out of trench and/or manholes.
General labor and other construction activities as assigned.
SAFETY
Promote, execute and adhere to SSP safety program
Wear required PPE
OSHA 10-hour safety training (preferred) but can be obtained upon hire
Attend regular monthly safety trainings.
QUALIFICATIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/PREFERRED SKILLS
Able to work well with others
Punctual Attendance and Dependability
2 years prior experience preferred in experience with underground water and wastewater.
Knowledge of hand and power tools utilized for underground pipe installation
Physically able to twist, scoop, bend, kneel, ascend ladders, descend ladders, and walk on uneven ground.
Valid Driver’s License
Must be able to pass background check to work on Military installations
