Come be a part of what makes us so special!The OpportunityAs a dedicated Software Engineer Senior - Strategy Planning, you will provide support to the Enterprise through delivering best in class technology solutions. You will be engaged in all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle which include gathering and analyzing requirements, designing, testing, documenting, and implementing software, responding to outages.We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the ECIO Delta Team within the Strategy planning and Business Agility Group. The candidate selected will provide internal specialized consultant advisory services to improve performance, implement solutions, and engage organizational resolution towards a specific business need or opportunity. Serving in a consultant advisory capacity; you will engage with multiple functional areas or across the Enterprise to provide the business and our key stakeholders a clear, unbiased real-time result that drives value and builds organizational efficiency. Team focus will be geared towards problem solving across Enterprise IT, advancing foundational technology principles rooted within the USAA Technology Strategy and driving organizational optimization.We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based out of either our San Antonio, TX or Plano, TX offices. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.What you'll do:

Design, develop, code, and test complex technical solutions across many technologies to tie together existing systems and tools.

Lead code/design reviews with team to ensure smooth daily operations and accurate planning.

Develop complex algorithms to solve business needs.

Investigates and resolves complex application and system technical problems and production issues by directing troubleshooting of end-to-end solutions.

Mentors engineers, coaches engineers on design, development, and maintenance of systems; Reviews teammates’ code.

Influence architecture, quality standards and understand, identify, measure across entire solution.

Identify system performance issues and optimize solution.

Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

Bachelor’s Degree or 4 additional years of experience beyond the minimum requirement can be used in lieu of a degree.

6 years of software development experience demonstrating depth of technical understanding within a specific discipline(s)/technology(s).

4 years of experience delivering technology solutions in all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle to include leading code/design reviews.

Basic Understanding of one or more of the following: Java, Swift, Objective-C, Cobol, JavaScript, Kotlin, C, HTML, CSS, SQL.

Demonstrated experience researching technical issues and generating creative/innovative solutions.

Demonstrated experience addressing production issues by troubleshooting applications and systems.

Experience articulating technical challenges and solutions.

Demonstrated strong knowledge of security coding practices and secure system fundamentals.

Demonstrated experience working with cloud technologies and tools.

What sets you apart:

Strong, validated experience with leadership, eye for business, problem solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills in financial services or other highly regulated industry

Experience with various IT driven systems, platforms, or vendors

Excellent knowledge of Architectural Patterns, distributed Systems architecture (Microservices, Messaging & SOA) and Object-Oriented Design Principles for use in guiding and influencing architectural and technical decisions within product and team

Experience with business technology optimization programs, creating structured technological strategies

Proficiency in Cloud technologies such as AWS/Azure, CI/CD, IaC, FaaS, Containers

Deep understanding and practice of DevSecOps and SRE

US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner

You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.
