Texas, Houston, 77001 Houston USASummaryThe primary purpose of the Outpatient Clinical Nurse position is to coordinate and implement patient care across the continuum of care. The Outpatient Clinical Nurse is accountable and responsible for providing quality, evidence-based patient care through the appropriate use of resources in collaboration with the inter-professional team. Acts as a patient and family advocate to uphold patient rights. Organizes and prioritizes work of patient care team; trains, coaches and assists team members to ensure optimum patient care and efficient use of resources.The ideal candidate will have to perform medical/surgical clinical and administrative task in a fast-paced patient care environment and available to work Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.Key functionsThe Outpatient Clinical Nurse must possess the following abilities and/or characteristics: Ability to coordinate and perform multiple activities while in collaboration with Thoracic medical oncologist, Thoracic surgeons, Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), residents, nurses and other multidisciplinary team members to provide quality patient care. The Outpatient Clinical Nurse must be able to set and implement priorities, practice independently, exemplify critical thinking skills, dependability, expertise in establishing and maintaining positive cooperative working relationships, flexibility, interpersonal verbal and written communication skills, computer proficiency, organizational skills, problem solving skills, resourcefulness, and self-motivation.Specific competencies include:Provide pre and post-surgical patient education, interaction with electronic health records, telephone triage of incoming patient calls, administration of subcutaneous and intramuscular injections; Safe handling and disposal of oral medications to minimize patient and staff exposure to hazardous drugs; Management of treatment related side effects and adverse reactions; Minimizing the risk of infection among patients who are actually or potentially immunocompromised; Knowledge needed to facilitate early detection of specific side effects that lead to effective self-management of the side effect when it does occur.EDUCATION:Required: Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.EXPERIENCE:Required: None.Preferred: At least one year of RN experience; medical/surgical experience preferred; Oncology experience is a plus.All clinical nurses with less than one year of registered nurse (RN) work experience will be required to participate in the Clinical Nurse Residency Program.LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:Required: Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN).
