POSITION OVERVIEWApplications accepted from: All Persons InterestedJob Classification: Center AdministratorDepartment: Mayor’s OfficeReporting Location: 11903 Bellaire Blvd. Houston, TX 77072Workdays & Hours: MONDAY – FRIDAY 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Subject to ChangeDESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSIn a first of it’s kind, the Alief Community Center houses the Houston Health Department, Houston Public Library, and the Houston Parks and Recreation Department in one facility designed to better serve the Alief Community.The City of Houston seeks to hire a Center Administrator to oversee the comprehensive coordination of our Alief Community Center to optimize the use of the facility while ensuring smooth daily operations. The successful candidate will oversee the logistical aspects of office spaces and grounds reservations, ensuring that all programs and events function harmoniously. By managing relationships with vendors, handling space allocation, and responding to facility-related inquiries, the Center Administrator ensures that this dynamic facility meets the needs of its users. Balancing the needs of the organization with the requests for private use, the Center Administrator will ensure agreements are completed and aligned with operational requirements. This role requires a blend of organizational skills and attention to detail, as it encompasses a variety of tasks that contribute to creating and maintaining an efficient, safe, and pleasant working environment.Responsibilities Include:
Develops, implements, and monitors quality service standards for personnel and service contractors.
Assists in coordinating approval for facility purchases, operations, maintenance, and special projects.
Develops and reviews proposals for communications and trade shows.
Evaluates and prepares reports, in compliance with the Food and Beverage Concession Operator, to record, calculate and remit commissions.
Assists in the development of annual reports and marketing materials.
Attends conventions and industry meetings and works closely with the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Prepares annual operating budgets, special reports, and analyses to assist management in their decision-making.
Knowledge of market rates, service quality benchmarks, and legal stipulations.
Keeps management informed of the progress of the development and administration of various programs.
WORKING CONDITIONSThis position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. There are no major sources of discomfort in a normal office environment.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEDUCATION REQUIREMENTSRequires a Bachelor's degree in Behavioral or Social Science, Humanities, Business Administration, Public Administration or a closely related field.EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSFour years of experience in administration or professional work related to Urban Planning, Public Administration or Service Delivery in a social service agency, public department or a similar facility are required. Directly related professional experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.LICENSE REQUIREMENTSNonePREFERENCESPreference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.Proficient computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
