BARC recently underwent a massive transformation; the shelter went from a place where animals were never given a second chance to a shelter whose mission is to get as many animals into forever homes as possible. Every single member of BARC’s staff is focused on finding a forever family for the animals that come into the shelter.What’s the position about?This position is a community coordinator position and will report to BARC’s outreach supervisor. The community outreach coordinator will play an important role at BARC by building and maintaining relationships with our community, volunteers, partners and supports. In this position, you will be responsible for organizing and executing community outreach programs such as BARC’s TNR/community cat program, Houston Healthy Pets Healthy Streets, and more. You will work towards raising community awareness of the BARC Animal Shelter and Adoptions Center and our community programs and ultimately finding ways to better our community through helping our shelter and community pets find homes.Currently, we work with about 200 rescue groups and hundreds of fosters. Our team has the potential to get more animals into temporary or forever homes than ever, and every new member of our team contributes to the growth and expansion of BARC’s programs.RESPONSIBILITIES:Community Outreach Coordinator Work in conjunction with other outreach team members to plan the dates and times of our offsite partners for surgery appointments. Communicate with Cat Colony Managers to ensure they are up to date on their community’s needs. Recruit and maintain relationships with both current and prospective colony managers and organizations, and regularly communicate via phone and email. Collaborate with local businesses, schools, and organizations to promote BARC’s various community outreach programs. Learn and understand BARC’s animal inventory software to better the community. Uphold BARC’s dedication to legendary customer service by setting BARC apart from other local animal shelter and adoption agencies. A key part of this is developing and maintaining strong connections with fosters and rescue organizations. Understand BARC’s mission and goals and ensure every customer leaves with a positive impression of BARC. Positively and proactively help solve problems for customers and balance multiple individuals and organizations in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrate a high degree of integrity and enforce/uphold all BARC policies. Additionally, the individual will be expected to walk outdoors in varied temperatures. The position will involve handling shelter pets. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEDUCATION REQUIREMENTSRequires a high school diploma or a GEDEXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSThree years of administrative or customer service-related experience are required.LICENSE REQUIREMENTSNonePREFERENCESExperience working with people of diverse backgrounds, ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, have strong interpersonal, and collaboration skills. Experience working in an environment requiring regular animal interactions is preferred as well.
