Position : Staff AccountantLocation : Houston, TexasRequisition ID: : 20668We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Accountant to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for performing a range of general accounting duties in accordance with established procedures and guidelines.Your main duties will include completing daily ledger entries and other financial transactions, collecting, and compiling financial information, and assisting in the preparation of accurate and timely financial reports and accounting statements for management. You will also be responsible for helping the business unit or location meet monthly closing deadlines and maintaining and reporting accurate and timely financial information while ensuring appropriate controls and compliance processes are followed. Additionally, you will be expected to analyze financial information to provide valuable insights for better decision making.Job Duties and Responsibilities

Prepare timely and accurate monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements for the group or plant.

Maintain accurate financial records, reports, and general ledger accounts.

Assist with monthly close processes by preparing journal entries, analyses, and account reconciliations, ensuring that all entries are reconciled, reviewed, and have appropriate supporting documentation.

Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations to ensure accuracy.

Act as backup for payroll processing as needed.

Maintain major customers’ accounts including invoicing, collections, revenue and expense tracking.

Provide routine or ad hoc analysis and communicate with leadership regarding significant financial performance metrics and variances

Perform various accounting duties, including but not limited to:

Coding invoices and setting up new accounts

Reconciling bank accounts, verifying deposits, and responding to inquiries from banks

Reconciling cash disbursement accounts, payroll, customer accounts, and other financial accounts, and managing accounts receivable collections

Verifying and processing payments for invoices associated with accounts payable, ensuring payments are charged to the appropriate accounts

Maintain inventory knowledge and counts within plants and warehouses

Providing cost accounting support by updating current costs for milk, packaging, and ingredients

Posting monthly, quarterly, and yearly accruals

Prepare and provide information and reports as required, with proper analysis of contents.

Respond to information requests, review financial statements, and assist with audits.

Maintain knowledge of and ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

The above responsibilities are not exhaustive and other duties may be assigned as required.

Undergraduate degree in accounting or related curriculum (or equivalent combination of experience and education)

Up to 2 years of accounting, finance, or related experience

Experience with Microsoft Office (proficient with excel)

Experience with accounting software (QuickBooks preferred)

Working knowledge of general accounting principles

Certification and/or License – may be required during course of employment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Possess a thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), including balance sheet and income statement methods, internal controls, and other areas related to financial reporting.

Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and company-specific accounting software.

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Proficient in arithmetic skills, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Ability to conduct research into issues or situations and gather data to compile reports.

Able to analyze and make recommendations from large amounts of data

Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage time, energy, and resources effectively to achieve goals.

Detail-oriented and able to work with accuracy to maintain a high level of quality.

Demonstrates the ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

Proficient in English, with excellent reading, writing, and speaking skills. Spanish speaking preferred
