Robert Half's new Controller opening will give you the opportunity to take responsibility for an accounting and clerical department at a successful Energy/Natural Resources company. The permanent Controller position is situated in the Houston, Texas area. In this role, it will be critical for you to plan and direct all accounting operational functions, handle the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluate accounting and internal control systems, and lead departmental staff. This role's duties will require effectively managing self and others within strict time constraints when providing client services, leading while also being a team player, generating innovative ideas, and challenging the status quo. Handle daily cash management and produce cash-flow reports, calculating cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals
Evaluate, implement and streamline policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies
Manage monthly and annual close of income statement and balance sheet, the reconciliations of accounts, and G/L analysis
Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor on a monthly basis
Present monthly financial reports to executive committee and partners
Review deliverables of self and team to align with client expectations
Collaborate with executive team and partners to make efficient and effective firm-wide operation possible
Guide all operations of the finance department, including accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll
Support punctual cash collection by managing the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques
Able to perform additional tasks beyond formal job duties
Research, plan and implement Finance Department initiatives including software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as needed
Requirements - Project accounting experience
Self-starter, ability to identify issues and resolve problems
10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred
BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field
CPA/MBA preferred
Ability to work in a dynamic and changing environment
Attention to detail and demonstrated ability to follow standard procedures is a requirement
Prior work done in public accounting is desired
Excellent analytical, quantitative and social skills
Commitment and abilities to meet critical business deadlines
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
Demonstrated ability to build and deliver effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds
Outstanding technology, analytics and management experience required
