The Police Department will administer this testing.Pass a comprehensive background check conducted by the Department of Justice (DOJ) as a condition of employment.Must be a licensed Texas Telecommunicator or achieve such licensure within one year of employment by passing an extensive character and background investigation and the successful completion of the 40-hour Basic Telecommunicator Course (#1013) and the Crisis Communications Course (#2120) as mandated by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (Texas Administrative Code Rule 217.2).Must have a current, nationally recognized Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification (TCOLE 3845 or equivalent), within one month of employment.Must maintain Telecommunicator License by taking a minimum of 20 hours of continued training every two years, which must include Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification (TCOLE 3845 or equivalent) and Cardiac Emergency Communications (#786).Job Summary :To provide rapid response to law enforcement agencies or any other emergency needs and give directions, information, or other aid. A Telecommunicator is "a person acknowledged by the Texas Commission of Law Enforcement (TCOLE) and employed by or serving a law enforcement agency that performs law enforcement services on a 24-hour basis who receives, processes, and transmits public safety information and criminal justice data for the agency by using a base radio station on a public safety frequency regulated by the Federal Communications Commission or by another method of communication.ā€¯Department Mission Statement:The University of Texas Medical Branch Police Department strives to provide protection and service in a courteous manner to the faculty, staff, students, patients, and visitors of UTMB in conformance with the Regents Rules and Regulations, UTMB policies, or federal, state, or local laws and ordinances. The Department also implements programs that are aimed at preserving the assets of UTMB.Salary Range:$40,000 Annually - $55,000 Annually.Specific Job-Related Duties:
Dispatch, speaking clearly and distinctly. Correctly type calls for service in CAD. Answer multi-phone lines clearly and distinctly. Perform simultaneously CAD/phones/alarms with accuracy. Monitor intrusion and fire alarms, criminal history, and data entry. Analyze situations quickly and accurately taking effective action.
Dispatches officers by radio to situations, including emergencies, requiring policeresponse.
Maintains records of incoming calls and police/patrolactivities.
Communicates with other emergency first response agencies (police, fire,ambulance).
Operates various computer terminals including the Computer Aided DispatchSystem.
Completes appropriatereports.
Adheres to internal controls established for thedepartment.
InitiatestheEmergencyNotificationSystemduringemergencyeventsandcoordinatesactivitieswithMonitoringServices during a hurricane or long-term emergencies, as well as monitoring weather and other appropriate conditions during crisis and catastrophicevents.
Monitors,acknowledges,andprocessesresponsestodoorcontactalarms,duressalarms,intrusionalarms,firealarms, andvideosecurityfeedsacrosscampusanddispatcheslawenforcementofficersorotheremergencyresponders.
Work Schedule:UTMB Police Department is a 24/7 full-service police agency and provides 24/7 police security services to UTMB owned, rented, and leased property. Police staff is assigned to work varying shifts based on seniority to cover 24/7 police service areas and shift periods.Police Telecommunicators work in an enclosed secured communications environment. They must be willing to work assigned shifts, which may include day shift, evening shift, or overnight midnight shifts, and be willing to work in adverse weather conditions.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
