DescriptionThe Geotechnical Intern will work collaboratively with the responsible geotechnical engineer as part of the Burns & McDonnell Geotechnical Department. The Geotechnical Intern will support and assist in completing requests for engineering-related services by the Geotechnical Department.

Assist in the geotechnical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion as directed by the responsible geotechnical engineer.

Assist with research and compile project-related data (geotechnical data, boring logs, subsurface profiles) as directed by the responsible geotechnical engineer.

Assist with planning subsurface explorations and laboratory testing programs as the responsible geotechnical engineer directs.

Apply basic knowledge of commonly used geotechnical engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the geotechnical engineering services industry.

Assist with ad hoc projects as assigned.

Performs other duties as assigned

Compliance with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

Currently enrolled and in good standing in a post-secondary education and/or technical certificate program in Bachelor of Science program in Civil Engineering or Geology (or have previously completed).

Accepted into or currently enrolled and in good standing in a Masters of Science program in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering from an accredited program strongly preferred.

Preferred to have completed a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Geology degree prior to internship.

Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.

Actively involved in campus, community or other volunteer activities or organizations.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Demonstrated leadership skills.

Self-motivated and eager learner aptitude to grow and develop within the field.

A minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship) in the country where this position is located.
