Come build your career with us!Job Summary and QualificationsThe 4 South Manager maintains 24-hour accountability for the supervision, coordination and evaluation of activities of the staff of the medical surgical/telemetry nursing unit, 4 South. Ensures patient needs are met in accordance with instructions of physicians and the Hospital policy and procedures. Coordinates the organizational improvement activities of the nursing unit. Oversees the development, review and revision of policies, procedures and practices guidelines. Assists the Director in overseeing the financial operation of the department. Maintains knowledge of current practice standards with regards to care of the medical-surgical / telemetry patient.

You will integrate department services with the hospital’s primary functions.

You will coordinate and integrate services within the department and with other departments.

You will, along with the Director, develop and implement policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services.

You will recommend a sufficient number of qualified and competent persons to provide care.

You will, along with the Director, determine the qualifications and competence of department personnel who provide patient care services and who are not licensed independent practitioners.

You will continuously assess and improve department’s and the organization’s performance and facilitate involvement of staff in Performance Improvement activities.

You will maintain appropriate quality control programs.

You will provide for orientation, in-service training, and continuing education of all persons in the department.

You will recommend space and other resources needed by the department.

You will participate in selecting outside sources for needed services

You will assist the Director in development of the departmental budget and assures fiscal responsibility in the financial operations of the unit.

You will oversee and review the development of monthly schedules.

You will collaborate with the Department Director, House Supervisor, and the Chief Nursing Officer or their designee regarding staffing issues.

You will demonstrate an understanding of man-hour guidelines and patient acuity in providing for quality patient care.

You will review, approve, and complete employee timesheets in Kronos system.

You will assure that new employees receive department-specific orientation.

You will assure that education and training of department is ongoing and based on identified learning needs of the staff and age of patients served.

You will assure that staff members maintains competency to perform specialized skills required by the department or the Hospital.

You, along with the Director, will assure that at least eight unit specific staff meetings are held annually and that communication with staff is interactive and information provided reflects organizational activities at all levels. Minutes are written in CRAF format and maintained on the unit.

You will assure accurate, complete and current unit education records are maintained for staff members.

You will assist the Director in interviewing and hires qualified staff members whose skills and knowledge match the patient care needs.

What qualifications you will need:

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with BSN degree is required: Master’s Degree is preferred.

Registered Nurse license by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners. If compact license held, RN is required to obtain a Texas RN license within 90 days of their hire date.

BLS/BCLS certification required per St. David’s policy

ALS/ACLS certification preferred.

Specialty Certification must be obtained within 9 months

Five years experience as a Registered Nurse, at least two of which must include management experience.

Telemetry/cardiology experience strongly preferred
