Job Summary

The OP Coder 2 is responsible for the timely and accurate assignment of diagnostic and procedural codes for a variety of outpatient charts for multiple facilities within Avera Health.

Accurate abstracting, along with other reporting and editing functions, is also a major responsibility.

The Coder 2 will be working independently to meet quality and production goals for the position, with occasional guidance from other professional staff.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor Degree in Health Information Administration or Associates Degree in Health Information Technology preferred

1-4 years of coding experience preferred

Licensure/Certification/Registration

If performing position from an IA based facility the following is required:

Completion of Child & Dependent Adult Abuse for Iowa Mandatory Reporters course within 90 days of employment and every 3 years thereafter.

If not certified or registered, the employee is required to obtain one of the certifications below within 6 months of employment. (Preferred upon hire) (Ranked by preference)

American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)’s

Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)

Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)

Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)

Certified Coding Specialist (CCS-P)

Certified Coding Associate (CCA

Certified Professional Coder (CPC)

Work Schedule

Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm (flexible); 80hrs/2wks

Pay

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$22.00 - $31.75 per hour
