Supervisor Registered Nurse - Heart and Vascular Service Line - DayLocation: York Hospital, York, PASchedule: Full TimeScheduleFull Time: 80 Hours/BiweeklyHours: 5:30am - 5:00pm, variedGeneral SummaryPerforms clinical and administrative duties pertinent to an invasive or noninvasive cardiology department of the Heart & Vascular Service Line. Assists in identifying and correcting patient safety concerns, Joint Commission regulations and Department of Health regulations. Collaborates with the department educator in the development and oversight of employee orientation and clinical educational needs. Completes nursing staff evaluations and manages nursing staff compensation with the guidance of the department manager.Duties and ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions:
Responsible for the daily oversight of operations in the assigned cardiology department under the guidance and direction of the department manager. Enforces all department protocols and policies.
Proficient with nursing care for all patients and provides care for patients prior, during and after procedures. Ensures nursing staff is providing appropriate services to safely and efficiently perform patient procedures and provide pre and post procedural care. Maintains knowledge of current cardiac concepts and clinical practices.
Responsible for patient and staff safety in the department. Intervenes with appropriate therapy in the event of cardiac emergencies.
Works collaboratively with the medical director, clinical educator and manager to develop guidelines, protocols and staff education plans as needed.
Ensures new and existing employees are able to perform procedures safely, following the established guidelines and protocols. Works with the educator, manager and medical director to develop employee orientation programs and specific educational plans for new and existing employees.
Completes yearly employee evaluations.
Ensures radiation safety measures and policies are followed by all staff members, including proper operation of fluoroscopy equipment, employee radiation dose monitoring, employee safety measures and patient safety measures. Follows and enforces employee compliance with radiation safety policies as outlined by the NRC and the Hospital's Radiation Safety Committee. Organizes and coordinates with the manager and clinical educator to ensure all required radiation safety education is provided to all staff.
Responsible for staff proficiency with all current equipment and operating systems within the department. Provides equipment and operating system guidance and education to new and existing employees. Able to troubleshoot problems with equipment and operating systems, including the oversight for the need of additional technical support, with the department manager.
Ensures department is following all regulations according to the Department of Health and Joint Commission. Ensures the department is prepared for and actively participates in Department of Health and Joint Commission surveys.
Ensures all employees and cardiologists participate in crew resource management 100% of the time.
Maintains call team responsibilities. Oversees clinical structure of call teams with the collaboration of the clinical coordinator, manager and medical director.
Collaborates with daily flow coordinator to create daily staff assignments and makes adjustments as needed.
Oversees clinical team structure specific to procedures as needed in collaboration with the clinical coordinators cardiologists and/or medical director on a daily basis.
Ensures all employees are following proper documentation and billing procedures. Collaborates with the department manager and clinical educator to meet staff training needs as new documentation programs are adopted. Participates in the development of new information technology systems. Responsible for updating documentation in an existing system to ensure proper document, patient safety and registry data collection.
Maintains involvement within clinical and programmatic initiatives.
Promotes and supports research initiatives.
Communicates openly and collaborates with the department manager concerning any clinical and/or operational needs.

Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population. Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and provides appropriate, age specific treatment. Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).
Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Prepares and maintains written documentation as required by the profession and the department.
Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, attends in-services, workshops and staff meetings as required.
Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation. Maintains professional relationship with coworkers, physicians, and administration.
Prepares rooms with appropriate instruments, supplies and equipment.
Drapes patients for procedures.
Opens sterile supplies and sets up for procedures.
QualificationsMinimum Education:
Associates Degree Required
Bachelors Degree Preferred
Work Experience:
2 years Cardiovascular experience. Required and
Experience in cardiology, EKG and physiologic monitoring. Required
Licenses:
Licensed Registered Nurse Upon Hire Required or
Registered Nurse Multi State License Upon Hire Required and
Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required and
Advanced Cardiac Life Support Upon Hire Required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of cardiology.
Fluent in medical terminology.
Ability to function as a team member.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Ability to demonstrate the principals of surgical asepsis.
Understands cardiovascular pathophysiology.
Ability to identify lethal arrhythmias 100% of the time.
