We arelooking for a skilled and friendly bakerto take on a leadership role to help us grow our tiny sourdough operation into something sustainable and special. We bake a small range of naturally leavened breads and a few other treats on Thursdays and Fridays (for subscribers and a few wholesale customers), and on Saturdays for retail hours where we have a delightful and loyal crowd of bread lovers who come to see us. If youlove baking andpeople, and maybe have even thought about starting your own bakery(but didn'tbecause you actually just like the baking part), please reach out. This is a great positionfor someone with a vision of how a bakery can be its best, who wants to fit into an existing rolebut also have the freedom to help actively steer the ship as part of the core operations team. Skills that we're looking for: -Basics of bakery production (you know these: scaling, mixing, shaping bread, judging fermentation, cleaning & organization, taking inventory & ordering, lift 50lbs, basic math, stand a lot, etc) -Knowledge of naturally leavened breads-Two years experience in a production bakery setting or serious home bakingalong with relevant professional skills elsewhere -Curiosity and enjoyment of learning -Clear and open communication, written and verbal -Ability to both work alone and manage a small team; delegating, teaching, correcting, advising as needed -Attention to detail -High standards of craftsmanship -Critical thinking and problem solving, alone and with a team -Asense of humor, ability to advocate for your needs, and a genuine enjoyment of conversation and meeting people where they're at-Make sure to look up our addressand verify thatyou can get out here It's kind of a strange location!(Useful but not required: handy with tools; spreadsheet building; interested in events like workshops or popups; Spanish language; photography / social media; good taste in music; likes dogs, kids, movies, reading books) We love what we do and make almost all of our decisions based on how they mightaffect our quality of life. However, beinga very small operation, you should know that we do not yet have some of the benefitsin place that you'll find at larger bakeries(like healthcare, 401K). We want to be up front about that. Finally being ready to fill this important role, however, so that the foundersdon't have to wear all of the hats all of the time, is a big step toward becoming aworkplace that can offer those things. If these are a top priority for you, but you're otherwise interested in what you've read so far, we do hope you'llwatch out for future openings as we grow. But if you're flexible in terms of benefits, we are able to offer: -Daytime weekday hours with only one early morning (5am-1pm Saturday; 9am-5pm Tuesday-Friday) -A warm, welcoming and collaborativeworkplace-Freedom to exploreand experiment with weekly specials -Customer interaction on Saturdays only, the rest of the time we have the place to ourselvesto goof off-Direct input on how the business runs day-to-day (the owners are very friendly people, I promise! Check our Google reviews)-Room to grow. This is not bullshit; we're growing this bakery, and whoever fills this position will have meaningful impact on both the journey to reaching a sustainable scale and on their own role in it.-Did I mention we're at a timberyard, have a bunch of wood nerds next door, and there's a smallforest right outside? I'm sure there's a lot I'm leaving out about the job and about us.
