LGBTQ+/Disability-friendly Home-help Aid/Personal Care Assistant
Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, 19113 Philadelphia USAVacancy expired!
Looking to build a team of 2 or 3 assistants that work well together. I live in Manayunk. I have less apparent disabilities that makes maintaining my home difficult. I need a couple dependable people for part-time help that together have the skills for the following: cleaning, organizing, basic house maintenance, cooking, driving, errands and developing and maintaining systems and planning.
I strive to be a socially just employer. Immigrants and D/deaf individuals are welcome to apply—I know some ASL.
You do not have to have all of the skills listed below. In fact, knowing your skills, weaknesses, and boundaries is essential.
Please respond to this ad by indicating your best and weakest skills of those listed below.
SKILL AREAS
-Good at SETTING UP SYSTEMS. Help the team of assistants run well and keep track of objects, responsibilities and schedules. For example, help set up a virtual calendar where people write down their scheduled times and track their actual hours worked. Also set up a system for making sure assistants don't forget to put important things in the right place at the end of the shift.
-MEAL PLANNING, COOKING, baking, and shopping. You would be shopping with me mostly, but need skills like picking out good produce, comparison shopping etc. I will lead the planning and cooking, but need a sous chef and help with planning and shopping. I need advice without judgment of my methods and budgeting. Bonus points for clever ways to have meals ready to go in the fridge that just need heating. Being neurodiverse and having eating disorders, I need people to not judge or try to life coach me, just support my existing process.
-SEWING - mainly minor things like hemming clothing
HELP ORGANIZING REMEMBERING AND SETTING UP SYSTEMS for things, such as:
- Returning things to Amazon
and other retailers
- Ordering and picking up
meds on schedule
- Finding new homes for
things, remembering those
locations, and putting them
back
Experience helping set up a household for wheelchair accessibility A+
-SEX AND KINK POSITIVE. I'm a sex educator and a queer person. An assistant will at times be needed to help me set up and take down at kink events. This person should be comfortable coming to such events and help load in, set up and take down. You are not required to stay. You are required to treat everybody with dignity. You must be able to understand the difference between sex positive and flirtatious. I am not at all interested in sexual connections with employees.
-DRIVING to/from appointments including some nights and weekends. Doctors appointments, choir rehearsal, physical therapy, kink events, photoshoots, meetings with clients, swimming, and other activities. Drivers need to have a flexible schedule and be alert, sober while working, and comfortable with driving at night and in big cities including New York. The person that takes me to swim would need to be able to swim themselves, help me change before and after swimming, and help me climb up the ladder by supporting an arm and applying a little leverage.

-NON-JUDGMENTAL Help With Hair And Clothing. I don’t currently need a lot of help with personal hygiene or clothing, but I need help with my shoes and sometimes with belts, buttons, tighter shirts, tank tops, or camisoles. I’m genderqueer, and wear a large variety of men’s and women’s clothing. I need help using clippers on the back of my hair. Bonus points, if you want to help me learn a few new makeup tricks.
-MINOR REPAIR AND HANDY PERSON TASKS. Tasks that require use of drills, screwdrivers, and other tools, such as tightening a screw on a dryer door, hanging shelves, putting together furniture, installing small appliances, or repairing laminate flooring.
-LINEAR AND BIG PICTURE THINKING. Help me and the team think through and coordinate logistics and schedule planning for the week.

-Know your own skills and weaknesses. Give me a heads up when you’ve committed to something you can’t execute or if you encounter difficulty with a task or project.
