Certified Nursing Assistant

Base- $23.22- 23.97/hr DOE

$1.00/hr swing and $3.00/hr overnight shift differential!

By integrating services mental health and addiction treatment, primary care, and housing we can improve healthcare delivery to those who have chronic mental health challenges and help people live longer and healthier lives.

Cascadia operates 3 locked residential homes in the Portland Metro area. These are homes for adults who experience severe and persistent mental health challenges. Employees work as a team to provide comprehensive services that focus on psychiatric treatment, personal care, skills training, and case management. Our residents are referred from the counties or the state and must either be under commitment or have a guardian. The focus of treatment is on immediate safety and preparing individuals to live in a less restrictive environment. Job Overview

The Certified Nursing Assistant is expected to implement and monitor treatment for residents within a residential facility. This position is primarily responsible for assisting clients with activities of daily living (ADL.) This position involves participation and implementation of program goals and objectives to promote a strengths-based, client centered approach to assisting residents in achieving individual goals and ultimately transitioning to a less restrictive setting.

This position must understand, appreciate, and respect the diversity and cultural differences within our Cascadia community. As such, it is expected that this position promotes integrated care, our vision of trauma-informed and person-first approaches and helps create a work environment of inclusion, safety, and acceptance.

Qualifications

Education:

Active CNA license in state of Oregon.

The incumbent must have a high school diploma, GED or equivalent.

Current First Aid and CPR certification or within one month of hire.

Experience:

Some work experience working with adults with severe and persistent mental illness is preferred.

Specialized Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Effective communication and active listening skills.

Demonstrated effective interpersonal and customer service skills.

Philosophy and values consistent with a patient-centered care model.

Ability to work proactively and effectively in a team as well as independently.

Operate Computer hardware and software (Including Electronic Health Record Software) at a level to effectively perform the job functions, including entering and retrieving data.

Ability to travel within the community and other Cascadia locations as necessary

Ability to perform CPR, First Aid, and properly use AED equipment. CPR/ First Aid certification training will be provided within the first 60 days of hire. Certification must remain current.

Other:

Preferred: possess a valid driver’s license, a recent three consecutive year driving history; clean driving record, ability to pass Driver Motor Vehicle (DMV) check and complete the Cascadia online Defensive Driving course.

Working Conditions

Work will be performed in a residential setting. Some sites are secure, locked, residential settings.

The nature of the work dictates that the employee is alert and attentive during his or her assigned shift. Rest breaks and meal periods are subject to interruption. Periodically, staff may be required to work a double shift if the need arises, due to the staffing requirements within each program. There is moderate to high risk of personal injury/illness due to violent behavior, exposure to disease, biohazards, noise, and contaminants.

Mental Demands:

The work may involve a degree of unpredictability and disruption of planned tasks requiring a flexible time management approach.

Physical Demands:

Staff must have the ability to assist residents in participating in a variety of active leisure and recreational events, as well as skill building outings and accessing community resources. These are required to avoid behavioral incidents and volatile situations. This position must have the ability to assist the team in providing safety to all clients and staff in potentially volatile situations.

When the need arises, staff may be asked to perform non-violent physical interventions, holds, and physical transport of individuals to seclusion rooms, as well as assist in the application of mechanical restraints.
