POSITION TITLE: Dining Room Hospitality and Safety Assistant

RESPONSIBLE TO: Dining Room Program Manager

HOURS: 20 hours per week. Monday through Thursday, 11:00am-4:00pm, plus monthly all staff meetings, special events, and trainings.

WAGE: $18.50 / hour

SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Hospitality and Safety Assistant works with the Hospitality and Safety Coordinator, primarily outside, to ensure the safety of guests, employees, and volunteers and to support a safe and respectful dining atmosphere. The Dining Room is a fast-paced, restaurant-style meal site, in downtown Eugene, serving individuals and families. This position works directly with some individuals dealing with addiction, diverse mental health issues, and trauma.

PRIMARY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Assist Hospitality and Safety Coordinator with ensuring the safety and security of staff, volunteers, and guests while on FOOD For Lane County (FFLC) property

· Follow Dining Room protocol for immediately the person in charge when problems arise with program participants.

· Emphasize conflict management, redirection, and de-escalation when resolving issues with people.

· Follow Dining Room procedures on contacting and involvement with subjects of concern

· Respectfully circulate amongst the crowd to observe behavior and protect property

· Remain visible at all times when working on parking lot (Notify the team when leaving the work area for any length of time)

· Greet and assist volunteers, guests, social service representatives (e.g. White Bird Cahoots, EPD), and the general public in a cheerful, professional manner

· Assist with cleaning and closing duties

· Remain calm at all times and respond in a professional manner

OTHER TASKS AND RESPONSIBIITIES:

Be informed about FFLC programs and services. Represent FOOD For Lane County to the public with knowledge and respect

Communicate with members of staff to stay informed on activities while restaurant is running

Back up relief for our Registration Specialist, get trained and licensed to use HMIS data system

Follow FFLC and Dining Room policies and procedures

Attend team meetings, monthly all-staff meetings

Attend scheduled events outside of restaurant operating hours, including cleaning days, trainings, staff retreats, and fundraising events

Jump in to support operations inside the dining area, kitchen, when needed

Work with volunteers to complete tasks that have been delegated

Work with neighbors and businesses to help facilitate a safe and friendly and clean neighborhood

Performs other tasks as requested by Supervisor

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

At least one-year experience providing vigilant safety and security

Relevant training in conflict management, crowd control, de-escalation, and safety

Ability to take and follow directions

Bilingual English/Spanish and bicultural competence preferred but not required

Able to keep a high energy, positive, non-judgmental attitude at all times

Able to understand and work with diverse guests, staff, volunteers, and community members

Experience working with and delegating to volunteers

Able to manage and prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast paced and dynamic setting.

Social service background strongly preferred, but not required

Working Conditions:

· This job is performed primarily outside in all types of weather

· This position performs essential physical labor which could include frequent walking, frequent standing for long periods of time, regular bending, regular pushing, occasional stooping, regular lifting (up to 50 lbs.), and regular stretching.

· This job works directly with the public, often times in crowds, with high levels of stimuli.
