DescriptionLeidos is currently seeking an Industrial Hygiene Technician to support the Occupational Health Group at the NASA John H. Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio. This role will support research operations by applying subject matter knowledge of Industrial Hygiene (IH) principles, IH equipment use, IAQ response (including investigation and remediation), and by conducting thorough real-time industrial hygiene monitoring.The IH Technician is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and controlling environmental factors arising in research, construction, and industrial workplace settings which may potentially cause sickness, impaired health and well-being, or significant discomfort among workers in order to ensure workplace safety.US Citizenship or US Permanent Residency and the ability to successfully obtain a Public Trust Clearance are required.Primary Responsibilities:

Participate in regular reviews of scientific research projects; identify industrial hygiene-related hazards. Recommend and implement corrective actions.

Perform and collect field measurements using a variety of industrial hygiene monitoring equipment.

Support the implementation of occupational health and industrial hygiene programs, including: indoor air quality, local exhaust ventilation, and gas detection systems.

Interpret and apply regulatory standards and guidance from organizations such as OSHA, ASHRAE, ACGIH, and NIOSH.

Support the implementation of requirements pertaining to the most current version of NPR 1800.1, NASA Occupational Health Program Procedures and the GRC Occupational Health Programs Manual.

Maintain thorough, accurate documentation of findings. Develop technical reports; present recommendations and implement control measures.

Respond to emergencies involving ventilation systems, unknown chemicals, fires, gas leaks, toxic gas alarms. Support emergency responders in identification and troubles-hooting of hazards.

Deliver in-person and online trainings to groups of up to 30. Class participants may include student interns, PhD researchers, and various personnel.

Perform comprehensive annual program reviews, including lessons-learned and recommendations for improvement.

Provide IH support to additional programs as needed (e.g. food safety program, Legionella, plumbing)

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate's Degree in chemical or physical sciences, public health, or environmental sciences, and 2+ years of experience in IH

Ability to write and critically review technical reports for all field work conducted. (e.g. executive summaries, process background, means/methods, results, discussions, and recommendations)

Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and switch between projects easily

Solution-oriented mindset with a “yes, if” rather than “no” mentality towards health and safety

Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships across levels and disciplines

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Capable of carrying and climbing a ladder and lifting up to 30 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated proficiency in the use of industrial hygiene equipment for evaluation of indoor air quality, moisture intrusion, chemical contamination

Working knowledge of HVAC systems, local exhaust ventilation, toxic gas detection systems.

Familiarity with ACGIH Ventilation Manual and ASHRAE standards
