Liberty House is a vibrant breakfast restaurant located in a 70 year old home in North Asheville. Inspired by culinary traditions, our cafe offers a unique dining experience that celebrates the flavors of a modern and health conscious Appalachian breakfast and lunch.

Position Overview:

The Sous Chef at Liberty plays a crucial role in assisting the Executive Chef in maintaining the high standards of our culinary offerings. The ideal candidate is passionate about Southern cuisine, creative, and possesses strong leadership skills. They will contribute to menu development, ensure the kitchen operates efficiently, and help in maintaining a positive and productive kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Assist in Culinary Leadership: Collaborate closely with the Chef de Cuisine and Executive Chef to develop, execute, and refine menu items that embody the spirit of Southern cuisine.

2. Kitchen Management: Oversee daily kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking, and plating to ensure quality and consistency in all dishes.

3. Training and Development: Train and mentor kitchen staff, ensuring they follow standard recipes and culinary techniques. Promote a culture of continuous improvement and creativity in the kitchen.

4. Quality Assurance: Ensure that all dishes leaving the kitchen meet our quality and presentation standards. Conduct regular quality control checks.

5. Inventory and Ordering: Assist in inventory management, including monitoring stock levels, placing orders, and minimizing food wastage.

6. Safety and Sanitation: Maintain a clean and organized kitchen. Enforce strict adherence to food safety and sanitation standards to guarantee the safety of both staff and guests.

7. Cost Control: Assist in managing food costs by controlling portion sizes, minimizing waste, and ensuring the efficient use of ingredients.

8. Adherence to Regulations: Ensure that the kitchen complies with all local health and safety regulations and food handling guidelines.

Qualifications:

- Proven culinary experience in a high-volume, upscale restaurant.

- Strong knowledge of Southern cuisine and a passion for exploring regional flavors.

- Leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a kitchen team.

- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations.

- Creativity and a desire to contribute to menu innovation.

- Flexibility to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
