The Department of Creative Arts Therapy within the College of Visual and Performing Arts seeks Part-Time Instructor to teach ATR 600.1 Professional Orientation, Ethical and Legal Issues in Art Therapy and Counseling, a three-credit hour, online synchronous course, during the Spring semester, 2025.This course examines the subject of embodiment in art therapy. Embodiment and related terms are defined, and the history of body-based art therapy methods are outlined including traditional art therapy techniques like body mapping and guided imagery. Concepts such as therapeutic attunement, transpersonal therapy, and energy-based therapy are introduced. The role of embodiment in trauma treatment is presented including models based on the Expressive Therapies Continuum. Distinctions are made between top-down and bottom-up body-based methods. Current research studies on embodied methods are presented.
