About The Craft Salon:
The Craft Salon is a vibrant arts and crafts studio in Kensington, Brooklyn. We host after-school programs, holiday camps, summer camps, adult workshops, and more. Our basement ceramics studio offers kids after school programs and adult classes in a creative, welcoming space.
Position Overview:
The Ceramics Studio Assistant supports the lead teacher in creating a fun, safe, and engaging environment for students. This part-time role involves helping with class preparation, studio upkeep, and student engagement.
Schedule & Pay:
Tuesdays & Thursdays: Afterschool ceramics class (2–6 PM)
Saturdays: Adult open studio (2–6 PM)

Pay: $20/hour
Ceramics assistants have access to use the studio space to make and fire their own work
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Studio Maintenance:
Recycle and prepare clay, mix glazes, and assist with glazing student work.
Load, unload, and fire kilns (with supervision).
Keep the studio clean and organized, including tools, supplies, and pottery storage.
Class Prep & Coordination:
Prepare and organize materials for each class.
Distribute supplies at the right time during lessons.
Ensure students have smocks and are ready to work.
Classroom Assistance:
Support students during lessons, helping with project steps and encouraging creativity.
Monitor classroom behavior and alert the Manager to any issues.
Engage students in free-time activities and assist with clean-up.
End-of-Day Tasks:
Label and store projects for students to take home.
Check in with the Manager to confirm the studio is cleaned and prepped for the next session.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be 18+ and pass a background check.
Experience working with children and in ceramics (training will be provided for studio equipment).
Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.
Ability to lift heavy objects (e.g., clay bags, kiln shelves).
Positive, reliable, and team-oriented attitude.
