Head Pastry Chef
New York, New york city 00000 New york city USAOvenly is seeking an experienced Head Pastry Chef to join our small and growing team of bakers.
This is a full-time position. Responsible for overseeing a small production team and with daily production (sourdough bagels, mixing/baking for cookies, cakes, etc.), training, task lists, recipe maintenance, new seasonal recipes, and inventory. This position requires close attention to detail, creativity, and quick problem-solving skills. We are looking for a proactive go-getter who is motivated, dependable, energetic, creative and wants to grow with us. This position reports to the COO
Shifts: Wednesday - Sunday
Compensation: Hourly ($24.00 - $26.00)
Responsibilities:
- Lead the bakery team of 3-4 people by example: schedules, attendance, timeliness, and a positive can-do attitude
- Work alongside the production team to efficiently scale, mix, portion, shape, and bake off treats (sourdough bagels, cookies, cake layers, cupcakes, etc.) while ensuring consistency and maintaining Ovenly’s standards of delicious quality
- Complete daily working product inventory, and weekly ordering, and oversee the general organization of all inventory
- Oversee daily production tasks, prioritize and delegate tasks to the bakery team
- Ensure ingredient receiving, e-commerce, and special orders are completed by the appropriate team members
- Responsible for hiring, training, and cross-training new employees
- Make sure all products meet quality control standards on a daily basis
- Troubleshoot any issues that come up, improvise as needed in a solution-driven way, and help instill a “Yes, and” approach among team members
- Approach each task in a strategic way, thinking several steps ahead always
- Maintain recipes and keep updated with new process changes; keep recipe binders in top shape
- Maintain high levels of cleanliness and organization of assigned work areas, adhering to sanitation/health regulations and company policy (ensure end-of-day production close down)
- Ensure administrative duties are completed, including addressing kitchen emails, order processing, etc. as needed during weekend shifts and off-hours
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- A minimum of two years of formal production and/or culinary experience is required (ex. efficient and proper completion of scaling, mixing, baking, and finishing of bakery items)
- NYC Food Handlers Certificate
- Flexibility in schedule
- Ability to communicate effectively with team members
- Ability to learn and operate all necessary equipment, including depositor and rack ovens
- Ability to problem-solve and prioritize
- Excellent communication skills and time management skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of HACCP and GMP
- Knowledge and passion for food and baking, with a desire to learn and grow within the company
- Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs & standing for long periods of time
- Must be fluent in English; Bilingual is a plus
