New York, New york city 00000 New york city USAManaging Clerk (#3890)We are seeking aManaging Clerkin our Trial Department for our New York office. In this role, you will work closely with our Trial Department attorneys and provide specialized support for all of our interactions with the New York state and federal courts. In this role, you will:
Serve and file documents, including service of initial process and subsequent papers. Also responsible for accepting service of documents served upon the Firm and for maintenance of appropriate records of these activities.
Maintain docketing system (CompuLaw) for all litigation matters.
Monitor case activity and, when appropriate, contact courts and other attorneys.
Use knowledge of court rules and procedures as a resource to Litigation Department attorneys.
Gather information upon request regarding various court procedures and regularly distribute articles and other information regarding procedure or substantive topics of interest.
Coordinate charges to clients for filing and service activities as well as outside vendors’ services. This includes maintaining accurate records of activities and processing vendors’ bills in a timely fashion.
Meet Trial Department attorneys to promote strong working relationships, gather information and identify specific needs within the Department, and establish and implement procedures to accommodate these needs.
Maintain a list of all attorney registration and bar memberships.
Prepare simple court documents upon request and under attorney supervision (e.g., affidavits of service, deposition subpoena).
Make arrangements for depositions, including process service, conference room reservations, and court reporter scheduling.
Maintain a procedure manual for Litigation business professionals.
Maintain a supply of legal forms and a sample form file.
Monitor CLE rules and hours and communicate any changes in compliance requirements.
May perform other duties not listed above.
What we’re looking for:
Bachelor's degree.
Significant law firm experience in Managing Clerk's Office, preferably in management or supervisory capacity.
Knowledge of New York federal and state court rules and procedures.
Proficiency with New York State Courts eFiling (NYSCEF), Case Management/Electronic Case Filing (CM/ECF), and Public Access to Court Electronic Records (PACER).
Familiarity with the CompuLaw docketing system.
Excellent organizational skills, communication and interpersonal skills, and tact and good judgment in dealing with highly trained professional personnel.
Ability to assign priorities in order to handle extraordinary situations.
Analytical and problem-solving skills.
Discretion in handling confidential material.
Preferred:
Paralegal training.
Notary certification.
