Visit our website at nyc.gov/dcas to learn more about the work we do.The New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS), Human Capital Line of Service, Bureau of Examinations performs responsible work in the establishment of qualifications for civil service positions, as well as in the development, validation, rating and administration of competitive civil service examinations, and certification of lists of eligible applicants.The Bureau of Examinations seeks to appoint ten (10) Special Examiners (Physical Tests) to perform professional work in the administration of physical ability tests under direct supervision. Special Examiners (Physical Tests) will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following tasks:

Directs candidates in the performance of physical test events.

Inspects candidates to ensure they are properly equipped for the test.

Accompanies candidates to physical test events and supervises the removal of equipment.

Evaluates candidates' performance during each event.

Records required data (e.g., score, time) for each candidate on each event.

Summons medical assistance, if necessary.

Notifies the site Examiner-in Charge, and Bureau of Examinations leadership of unusual incidents at the site and prepares incident reports.

May testify in court.

May set up physical test materials and equipment for each candidate.

Note: Special Examiners (Physical Tests) will be required to work varying schedules, including up to four 10-hour days per week. Assignments are scheduled around the physical testing needs of City Agencies and typically occur twice annually each for a period of approximately three months, and each round will be administered to approximately 3,000 candidates. An associate’s degree or higher in Physical Education or a closely related field from an accredited college or university; or

A teaching certificate or teaching license in Physical Education; or

Two years of satisfactory full-time experience teaching at the college level; or

A teaching certificate or teaching license and two years of full-time experience teaching at the high school level; or

A valid (non-expired) personal trainer certification certified by one or more of the following:

a. American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)

b. National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM)

c. American Council on Exercise (ACE)

d. National Strength and Conditioning Association (NCSA)

e. International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA); or

Military service in a branch of the U.S. Armed Forces where you attained a pay grade of E5 or higher and you were responsible for troop readiness including planning and implementing physical fitness regimens; or

Three months of experience performing professional work in the administration of a physical test; or

A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to “1”, “2”, “3”, “4”, “5”, “6”, or “7” above.
