Live In Elder Care Aide

Full time help needed for a couple in their 80's living in a beautiful, spacious, family home in the town of Clinton (New York State, near Rhinebeck and Hyde Park). This is a live in position. We occasionally need help late at night with safety and personal care if someone wakes up. So far this has not been needed often but could become more frequent as medical conditions worsen. You won't be alone, you'll be working as part of a team with other family members living in the house. We may also need another person to provide part time back up coverage daytimes.

We need someone who could help with bedside care, vitals, PT, medication reminders, showering, personal hygiene, feeding, cooking and laundry as needed. A plus for someone who could cook for special diets and drive to appointments or ER visits. Hospice care may be needed later, we would like to keep everyone at home.

A big plus for someone who would enjoy being a companion to Mom, who is losing her short term memory, but still a wonderful conversationalist - especially on science, ecology and animals (bird lover a plus !). She takes frequent naps, but when she's awake needs someone to remind her to use her walker and make sure she doesn't fall. Both Mom and Dad are bookworms and rarely watch movies or TV.

Compensation to be discussed. Some schedule flexibility a plus (depending on recovery from procedures or emergencies).

No certifications required, but CNA, HHA and knowledge of nutrition a plus. Recent physical and proof of vaccination a must, including the most recent Covid booster (not optional). We need someone who maintains virus caution in their daily life, as we do.

We would prefer someone currently living within a reasonable driving distance who could come spend a few hours getting to know us before we make a decision. We will gladly pay you for those hours.
