LOCATION: Capital District Youth Center, Inc. (CDYCI) located at 838 Albany-Shaker Road, Albany BASIC FUNCTION: To provide differentiated, direct instruction, implementation of daily classroom routines, and remediation for middle and high school students in an Office of Children & Family Services (OCFS) regulated juvenile detention facility. RESPONSIBILITIES:

To teach curriculum in an OCFS juvenile detention facility setting.

Curriculum preparation, instruction, supervision and evaluation of students in alignment with New York State Learning Standards.

Utilizing appropriate pedagogy and instructional methods to engage students.

Communicating with applicable CDYCI and BOCES administrators to support students in their learning environment.

Engage in professional learning sessions through the year (professional development to be offered in advance of the start of instruction as well as continued professional development and technical support through the year).

Assist students in developing the skills and content required to be successful.

Job Qualifications

NYS valid teaching certification in Special Education or Students w/Disabilities 7-12.

At least three (3) years of teaching experience.

Experience teaching students living in a juvenile detention facility setting preferred.

Willingness and ability to embrace new challenges and ideas to work as an integral part of a team.

Ability to satisfy all required background checks facilitated by the CDYCI and Capital Region BOCES in accordance with NYSED and NYSDCYF policies.

Successful candidate’s name/credentials will be submitted through required databases for clearance in accordance with NYSED and NYSDCYF policies, including but not limited to:

Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs.

Statewide Central Register (SCR) of Child Abuse and Maltreatment

LEIS, maintained by NYS Office of Medicaid Inspector General

Central Residency Registry

Successful candidate must have or obtain:

Fingerprint supported criminal background check through NYSED, in accordance with SAVE legislation

Fingerprint supported criminal background check through NYSDCYF;

Physical (medical) examination required

NYS DMV Clearance, in accordance with agency rules.

The selected applicant will be subject to a fingerprint supported criminal history background check in accordance with SAVE Legislation effective July 1, 2001.
