Faculty Appointment Type Tenure Track Term (if applicable) 9 month Begin Date of Appointment 08/12/2024 Exempt/Non-Exempt Exempt General Function The Assistant Professor is a member of the ranked faculty with an intermediate academic rank who has demonstrated achievement in the areas of teaching, research, and professional service appropriate to the discipline. The Assistant Professor’s teaching responsibilities are assigned by the academic department head and may include serving as an academic advisor. The Assistant Professor engages in scholarly activities beyond those associated with teaching and is expected to demonstrate professional productivity in research, based upon the availability of resources and consistent with the mission of the University.Description of Primary Duties The Assistant Professor will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in multicultural education and should also be able to teach foundational methods in the field. Additional responsibilities include:

Overseeing the Introduction to Multicultural Education ( EDC 345) course

Conducting research, publishing and presenting scholarship, pursuing funding, and participating in other scholarly activities related to multiculturalism and/or social/cultural issues in education

Engaging in service to the school, college, university, relevant professional organizations, and/or the field of education

Establishing partnerships with local community organizations and schools that foster inclusive engagement

The nine-month appointment will begin in Fall 2024 and may include opportunities to teach and mentor doctoral students in the college’s new Ed.D. program. Interested candidates should know the numerous opportunities to apply for funded support through the university’s Office of Research Administration, Graduate College, and Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning.Per the COE workload policy, all ranked faculty (tenured and untenured) will be assigned 9 credit hours per semester (usually the equivalent of 3 courses) of teaching provided the faculty member documents an established research agenda. Three hours will be assigned for research.Minimum Acceptable Qualifications The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Assistant Professor are prescribed in the Faculty Handbook. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.Additional Qualifications The successful candidate will possess accomplishments in teaching, scholarship, and professional service pertinent to multiculturalism and/or social/cultural issues in education. The University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and inclusive excellence of the academic community through their teaching, research, and/or service. The school is looking for a candidate interested in collaborating with colleagues on committees and projects that contribute to the school, college, university, relevant professional organizations, and/or the field of education.

Earned doctoral degree from an accredited postsecondary institution in education, social or cultural foundations, or closely related fields ( ABD candidates with anticipated completion by August 1, 2024, will also be considered.)

Strong evidence of potential to develop scholarship through presentations, publications, and/or grants

Professional experience in PK-12 schools

Experience with inclusive engagement among students from diverse backgrounds
