We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Medical Assistant with phlebotomy experience to join our team at a retail direct lab testing location. The ideal candidate will have experience in clinical and technology/administrative tasks within a medical office or healthcare setting.
The primary responsibilities of this position includes drawing blood, preparing specimens for lab testing, assisting customers, and entering data into various systems to ensure accurate orders, requisitions, and results. The candidate must demonstrate proficiency in phlebotomy, excellent customer communication, and administrative abilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Phlebotomy: Perform venipuncture, finger sticks, and other methods of collections for lab testing.
- Patient Preparation: Prepare customers for service.
- Specimen Handling: Label, process, and prepare collected specimens for laboratory analysis following proper protocols.
- Patient Care: Ensure customers understand expectations.
- Medical Records Management: Update and maintain accurate patient medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Infection Control: Adhere to infection control protocols, including proper handling of biohazardous materials and sanitation of draw rooms and equipment.
- Administrative Tasks: Schedule appointments, manage customer flow, take payments, and other office duties as needed.
Desired Qualifications:
- Education: Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program required; phlebotomy certification preferred.
- Experience: 1-2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant with demonstrated phlebotomy skills.
- Certifications: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) preferred. Phlebotomy certification desired.
Required Skills:
- Proficiency in phlebotomy techniques and specimen handling.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain procedures to patients; excellent phone etiquette and customer service.
- Ability to multitask and handle administrative tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of electronic medical records (EMR) systems preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.
Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
Manual dexterity and ability to perform detailed work with hands.
